so me and my brother in law decided to take my truck out to test its capabilities. he lives in Palm Springs so we took the 45 minute ride to Ocotillo Wells which is a stones throw away from the Salton Sea. in the same general area is Truckhaven, a truck only off road park and Anzxa Borrego Desert State Park mader famous by the De Anza expedition in the 1800s. the bottom line is that with a stock z71 4x4 suspension and stock Michelin tires, my truck did awesome. the only issue i had was it being a tad too wide to fit on some of the hill climbs or descents. other then that, it rocked. others have mentioned that this truck is too heavy to go offroading, i actually feel that helped me keep all 4 tires on the ground. here are some pics....ask any and all questions.

breakfast of ribs LOL

Sweet. I live in alpine, San diego, ca so only about an hour way from ocotillo wells and plaster city and all that. Take my dirt bike all the time but never my truck. Did you have to use 4x4? Or would 2wd be fine too. I know road tires slip and slide out there since they are not grippy.

the main dirt road was a 2 wheel drive trail. but when i dropped down into some of the sandy washes, that was definately 4 wheel drive. also, the hill climbs and descents were obviously used by Jeeps and smaller off road vehicles so eventhough i was going down so very well traveled paths, because of the width of the truck, everything i was riding in was virgin sand so i had to keep it in 4 hi. only droopped into 4 low one time and it did exactly what i wanted it to do.
