There was a guy who posted the other week with one of the first oil consumption issues I have seen on the new ecotec engines. It's not a risk I'm willing to take. Especially considering the mpg gain on or off is negligible.

i'll be keeping an eye on this. what are some of the better tuners out there for this truck? or should I google that too?

Lol you could. But Diablo, superchips, or range are good choices.

And by google I meant using google to search this forum for all the info. Which there is tons.

I read a bit about range. is that a tuner or just a tool to shut the afm off? I also read of battery draining problems with that one. I'm sure there is tons of info on here and I will be searching, but questions being asked more then once happens on every forum ive been on. sometimes its nice to get fresh opinions rather then ones from 2 or 3 years ago which is sometimes the case

Yes range only turns off afm. But it eases people's minds who worry about tuners and warranties. And yes it has been know to drain batteries if left plugged in when the truck isn't being used for a long time.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and comments. I will be looking at buying a range, if anything just to try it to see what difference it makes. I didn't know about the truck being able to learn driving habits so thanks for that. I can only hope this truck is as good as my last. Chevy has never left me on the side of the road like some others i won't mention. Mile after mile of reliability is worth every penny.

RedHotZ712016....Nice truck....
thanks and I wish you luck with yours!

I'm not trying to start an argument, but just trying to throw out a friendly suggestion. The reason it was recommended that you search the site for the AFM threads is because half the threads about the newer generation trucks get hijacked or pushed off subject, like this one did, into arguing rather or not you should turn off your AFM and who has what proof for their side of the story. Like ferraiolo1 said, this subject has been beat to death already in every other thread and I don't think it's fair to the OP to turn this thread's focus to just the AFM argument. Don't take it personal when someone points you to the search feature of the site. They're usually not trying to blow you off...it really is helpful in situations like this.

My dad has a 16 and he loves it...no issues to report so far. I don't think they changed anything on the 17's, but I could be wrong. The hardest thing for me was acquiring the taste of the new front end look they're using  Whoever mentioned the 'learn' mode is correct. When I bought my '14 new, the transmission shifted kind of funny, but it got much better after a few thousand miles.
this thread did get kind of hijacked... but I do think it was useful info at least! all my point was is if you are going to mention modifying or altering a feature of the truck you should at least state why. oil consumption doesn't take up too much space and time does it? ;)

The person who that comment was directed to has been told numerous times about the AFM issues, and was provided with links to proof as to its dangers and faults before, but yet still proceeds to comment on posts asking for proof creating long off topic threads rather than do his own research into it.

But I digress, the OP received the info he needed.
yeah that can be annoying
