Please help ! Recently bought truck 1998 silverado z71 4x4 dually. A/C was not working, I determined that the compressor was bad. Replaced compressor, condenser, inline filter, freon & oil. Went to try the A/C no power to compressor. Bypassed hi and low pressure switches, no power to compressor. Swapped out starter and A/C relay, no power to compressor ?? This has me baffled and could really use some help. Thanks

So, you're thinking a bad wire ? Thanks, But I can't even imagine trying to trace the wiring harness back to find the last source of power.
I can bypass both sensors and the relay using jumpers and there is still no power getting to the compressor. The ground wire to the compressor is good. I guess I may have to go with what I did and just toggle switch power to it. I feel I'M MISSING SOMETHING, BUT CAN'T THINK OF WHAT IT MAY BE.

Did you check to see if there was power leaving the AC switch by the HVAC Controls?? Im assuing the light is going on to tell you the AC is activated? Just trying to see where power is lost.... before HVAC Control or between HVAC Controls and the AC Compressor it self.

EDIT: Hahaha posted at same time. Deff check the controls and see if the button is doing anything.

Im not sure if you will or not.... I just know that the compressor cycles off and on when you have the AC on as the pressure raises and drops.... So having it on the entire time may effect it.... but Im not expert by any means when it comes to car repair and especially AC, so if some one could chime in on this.

Well I just tried jumping the relay again and i do get power to the compressor. I swapped the starter relay and the A.C relay but still nothing ! The truck starts so I'm assuming the relays are good ? Any idea why the relay is not getting the power from the low voltage side ? Thanks

I have jumped the connection on top of the compressor and the connection on the condenser ( the cylinder attached to the firewall) When I turn on the A/C button with the key on I have power to both sides hi and Low of the relay. So I'm thinking relay, but I swapped starter and A/C relays and still nothing !I know the starter relay is good because my truck starts . Thanks

Check all connections behind the controls for the HVAC in the cab. There is either a short or open wire between the AC switch and the relay. The AC switch may light up saying the AC is on... but there still may not be a connection from there to the relay. I would take the controls out in the cab and make sure everything is plugged in and nothing is damaged. If that still all checks out good, I would run a wire from the AC switch to the relay. Thats all that switch does in the cab is ground that 87 pin. So if everything from the relay to AC compressor works and the AC light in the cab is lighting up, then theres something in between thats not there. Check that, then run a wire. Should be simple to do. Maybe the connection under the relay is bad? you can take the fuse box out and unplug a connector under it and look at the connections to make sure nothing is corroded.
