Because from what I've heard in some vids, stuff like Lucas injector cleaner and others, won't work because it's direct port injection. So it can't help clean up the gunk from the pcv valve dumping oil into the manifold.

That's one persons anecdotal statement. I wouldn't put too much weight into it. A catch can can actually help prevent oil consumption because it helps keep valves and rings from getting gunked-up with deposits.
