What does the hood look like under the plastic cover? I don't like the cover, think it looks cheap (my opinion only, others may disagree). Was thinking of just removing it. What's under there?
The ugly, black, plastic intake manifold.

How long would you guys recommend I wait before pulling off the tape? I can't really seem to find an answer on that.

Until its dry, or almost dry....make sure you pull away from the paint

Agree with all above who used krylon fusion. I did mine this past summer and it's still holding up perfect under the hood. Prep it good and you'll be fine.

Well I might have been inspired to do that color scheme after looking at yours. There was a post I found when I was thinking about painting mine. Saw all kinds of different color schemes. But the black and red stuck with me.

I'm think of doing mine, but I have a white truck and I don't know if I do white that it's gonna stay clean - would it look stupid if I did black and red?

So about an hour probably?

Also, those engine covers look great guys. I'm hoping mine looks half as good when done.

Ok so just finished removing the tape. I got quite a bit of paint bleeding underneath the tape, but other than that I like it. Is there anyway I could fix the spots where the paint bled underneath the tape? (You can see it on the bowtie)

Also tried to do an 05 on my fuse box cover but that didn't work out so good seeing as it used a stencil and tape it down to do achieve it. I may just try to outline in black somehow.

I would love to find somebody that I can pay to do something similar. I don't have the patience needed to do thins kind of painting.

It doesn't look like the black plastic is painted. On my fist engine cover paint job, I had the same bleed out with the red paint.
I simply used a sharpie black marker to "fix" this issue. You couldn't even tell 2 feet away.

Actually in the pic above of my two engine covers, the one on the right has a lot of sharpie covering the bleed through.

Hey I appreciate that reply. I had figured next time I better paint the plastic black before I try this. Might pick up an extra to play around with at the scrapyard. And I used sharpie too, I think it will be mostly only noticeable to me. I really messed up on that 05, using a stencil is not the right choice.

Here it is all bolted down. Engine cover, air filter box and fuse box lid all "re-decorated". Not quite as good as Kashmir's but I'd say it's nicer to look at now than it was!

Final product:

The Chevy symbol looks like a plus sign on there. Unless you were going for a Vortec Plus kinda look then it looks right.

It's obviously just the angle, the dimensions aren't perfect though I'm sure.... I was going for a Chevy bowtie.

I had a total brain cramp on this. I thought the OP was referring to the plastic thing ON TOP of the hood, not in the engine compartment. I agree, it looks cool.

Now - what's under the plastic thing on the hood?
