What is the best way to remove the pitman arm nut without too much collateral damage, ie roasting the seals out of the steering box with to much heat or destroying the nut. After 2 days of soaking with penetrant the points of the nut are still rounding off. Upstate NY salt is the source of so many problems! Thanks In advance for any help, it is much appreciated!

Well if it wont move you may end up heating it up. If your good with a grinder and their is room you could cut the nut off.

hammer and chisel, split the nut in one spot and it will turn off.

thank you for the replies. My intent is to not destroy the nut. I need to find out if it is a 3 or 4 flat pitman arm so I can order the right one. Te truck still will need to be driveable in the meantime. any ideas? thanx!

look between the pitman arm and the gearbox on the pitman shaft, you can see and count the flats
