I turned my daily 09 Silverado 4x4 into a summer street truck. This was my first attempt at building something myself. I cleaned and coated the frame with Por 15, put a Belltech 2/4 drop kit in it w/ Belltech street shocks and replaced all the front suspension with Mevotech TTX. I have to do some work on the box (broke a few bolts removing it) and with any luck I will have it out on the street by May. So far I am pleased with what I have done.
I'm not ready for a new big HP engine and transmission like I planned but want a little extra this summer.
Looking for some power adder ideas that will work on a stock 5.3. Definitely going to put a tuner on it.

Cam shaft would be good but it may be better to determine your goals first and decide if spending money now is worth it in the end

The goal is 600+ HP to the tire. I see some nice LS packages naturally asperated that might do the trick. I'm not afraid to spend $7 to 8 grand on a motor. What I plan to invest is still better than a new ride. Maybe I will leave it alone for the summer while I iron out the new suspension.

600+ HP to the tire and be streetable is not happening NA.

Let me rephrase: It will be streetable but it will be one rowdy SOB and is going to cost upwards of $15k.

It's not just "spend 7 to 8 grand on a motor"... You'll also need supporting mods like trans, rear, fuel system, tuning and to use that kind of power. More like 12-14k doing the labor yourself.

Best bet would be a tvs2300 or LSA blower swap your current 5.3, with cam, long tubes and e85 max effort you should be able to make 600whp, but still need the above items done to hold up.
