I am going to install a new head unit and back up camera in my 2014 Sierra. I purchaced a head unit off amazon saving money vs. a purchase from crutchfield.
I have searched on google and here on this site for instructions or videos on how to (DIY) and can't find anything. Has anyone done this or have links you can share on how to do this?

thanks

thanks, i have seen that video on removal of the silverado screen removal. I have the base sierra 1500. Should be about the same. looks like only difference is the seat heaters, that my truck doesn't have. Concerned about the cutting of the dash, what to make sure we do it right

while i have no personal experience with that harness, its known as problematic. big one is laggy stearing wheel controls, and lost control of your interieror light control. Meaning, you'll have to set them with the factory head unit, and when you uninstall the factory head unit you loose control of them. the other one is it just quits working. hopefully they resolved it. let us know how the install goes.

thanks for the heads up, I don't have staring wheel controls(base truck). So I should be safe there. Lost of interior light control? Do you mean dome & map lights?
Is their another harness out there? Crutch field recommended the harness I purchased, and they are a solid audio company. I did purchase from amazon to save some money.

Dome and map lights yes, but I may have misspoke. I know with the Idatalink harness it will enable the ability to interface with the map and dome lights, but only if your aftermarket head unit can support it. Its like a 2 parter. Check to see if your harness as the ability to do it, and your aftermarket head unit supports control of them. You'll need both to make it work. I know most of the midrange and above alpines do it, some kenwoods, and most of the highend pioneers do. Which head unit did you buy?

I looked at the manual for that radio: http://manual.kenwood.com/files/B5A-0987-00.pdf

doesn't make a mention of light control.. It does support the idatalink harness which I know for fact has the ability to interface with the light controls. The doco does say OEM Remote Control Interface, which may mean light control, but only with the Idatalink harness. It makes no mention of supporting the harness you picked up. I would email kenwood support and get the full details.
