Service Stabiltrak/Traction control, loss of throttle.....

Been chasing my tail the last couple weeks trying to figure out why my Service Stabiltrak/Traction control warning is coming on and I'm also getting a loss of throttle I think may be associated with it. The check engine light is not throwing any codes. The warning comes on when the wheel is turned past 180 degrees in either direction, that tells me it's the steering wheel position sensor. I had it scanned & it only tells me there is a short somewhere in the system and is not showing any codes. The service stabiltrak/traction control warning light also clears itself and is off after every time the truck is turned off and it sits for 20min or so or longer then comes back on when the wheel is turned past 180 degrees in either direction again.

You guys think the loss of throttle is associated with the service stabiltrak/traction control warning? The loss of throttle issue always happens after it's been sitting awhile or over night and whenever it wants to anytime in between. The throttle usually picks back up after a few seconds of not trying to give it throttle, but has lasted as long as about a mile or so in some instances. I'm going to order a new steering wheel position sensor and TPS sensor next week and install them myself, I'll update with results.

If the steering sensor clears the Stabiltrak/traction control warning, which I think it will, but the loss of throttle continues with a new TPS sensor and steering sensor, what would your next guesses be? The truck starts and idles fine, so I don't think the crank sensor is bad, but what about the cam position sensor being bad or the throttle pedal sensor being bad with no codes being thrown? I've also tried a different throttle body off a known good motor and still had the same no throttle issue.

Could be a wheel speed sensor connection, but I think that would throw an ABS code. Not sure. I think your loss of throttle is probably the truck going into limp mode. That would surely throw a code I would think. Take it to a free scanner place (autozone) Some scanners read deeper than others. I don't know the cost of these sensors but it sounds like money out the door if they are not bad.
Just my opinion.

Definely money out the door, but idk what else to do. I'm not getting an ABS warning. I've had it scanned 3 different times with 3 different scanners over the past month or so and 2 of them didn't even recognize the stabiltrak/traction control warning. Only 1 came back with there being a short somewhere in the system, but didn't pin point it.

Taking it to a dealership is a LAST resort and I will exhaust all efforts and resources before doing so trying to figure it out on my own.

I've only replaced what I've read about that can make that warning come on.

New negative battery cable
New brake light switch
New air bag impact sensor (drivers side) behind the front bumper (found the casing was split and it needed replaced anyway)

I hear ya about the dealer. You could replace a ton of stuff at the cost of a service call. Good luck on the troubleshooting. Please let us know what you find along the way.

I think you should take the truck to dealership and you will probably still save lots of money instead off buying parts without knowing if you really need them. They will pin point the problem, and just tell them you'll get the part (s) yourself and do the repairs also.

I dont think tps sensor is bad, looks like safety mode thrown by computer detecting a fault somewheres.

But thats just what id do myself. .lol Good luck.

That is another option, I know they have a code reader that will go deeper than any parts store code reader will.

Anybody else have some insight as to what might be going on? I haven't found much/hardly any info on here about the loss of throttle issue. No "reduced engine power" warning either...

Any issues with the intake tube and maf sensor will set the stabilitrak service/traction service.

Got the steering wheel position sensor replaced this morning and that cleared the Service Stabiltrak/Traction Control warning. Still don't know about the intermintant throttle through. It still had the same issue with a swapped throttle bottle i've been using and I put a new TPS sensor on my original throttle body and it's still there whenever it wants. Only reason I replaced the TPS sensor on my original throttle body was becasue I took the original TPS sensor apart to see if there were any internal problems with it, long story short, there not meant to come apart. So TPS sensor is now ruled out, again, no codes are being thrown during the intermintant throttle issue.

So, I've talked with a couple different people that have experinced the same symptoms that I am with LS swaps they've done. One is a 69 Camero and his symptoms matched mine to the T. Starts and idles/runs great, then with no warnings while driving it would randomly loose the throttle. After a few minutes, it would pick back up. Turned out to be the throttle pedal sensor, my fiance' ordered a new AC Delco one for me off Amazon (early XMAS gift I s'pose, lol) and I will have it swapped in early next week. I'll post the results, fingers crossed!

Did it fix your throttle problem? I'm having the same issue with my traction control and stabilitrak and loss of power during cruise speeds. I don't have the cruise on but just a low constant speed the truck struggles for speed. Also I'm not finding the part on amazon. I have an 08 Silverado. I called auto zone to and there saying part not yet available. What is the GM part number you got?

The problem still persists after swapping the throttle pedal. I found some info on hptuners and I think it's the tune associated with the throttle follower torque values. Just need to find the time to hook up with my tuner so he can open the tune and make the appropriate changes in the PCM.

Are you wanting a part number for the steering position sensor or throttle pedal?

My truck is also far from stock, I deleted the AFM/DOD, did a cam swap and full exhaust with no cats and long tube headers with a mild custom tune. My case may be different than yours as far as the intermittent throttle issue. Needless to say, I have 2 good throttle pedal assemblies now. Try letting it come back down to idle when it acts up, mine comes back when I let it come back down to an idle.

Does your service stabiltrak & traction light reset itself after the truck has sat a while or over night? If it's the steering position sensor causing it to come on, the warnig light will be off when the truck is started, then come on when the wheel is turned past a certain degree in either direction. That's how I figured out my steering position sensor was bad.

Yes traction control and stabiltrak comes on with ck eng. Then after setting over night it resets for a while then comes back on. The guy who owned it before me said he had tuned it so I don't know exactly what he set it too.

So i finally met up with my tuner last week and here's the changes he made after me telling him what I had been able to research. Basically checked and returned back to stock like what I found on hptuner forum. Everything is normal now up to this point.

From my tuner:

I set the following table back to stock. They were maxed out.

I pretty much had the same prob right after I deleted my afm/dod. Traction control/stability control went crazy. What did you find fixed it?

Mine was a bad steering position sensor..

Here's the only video I could find to show me some insight on replacing it. Looks and sounds like a lot, but it was easy.
