It was around 40 degrees out this morning so I started my truck and went back inside. I came out and when I got close it sounded like a cat was crunching food under the bed of the truck. Wasn't too loud but got my attention. I drove for 50 yards and it was gone. I checked after a 15 min drive and it was still gone. First time I noticed it but only had the truck for a week.

Any reason to be concerned?

You know that wouldn't be the first time that's happened? Was following my wife and one of our outside kittens fell out? Neighbor that was walking saw it and was like wtf? Kitten was fine though!

Well, I am not big on cats, but I would rather hope that it was a tree rat or other rodent chewing acorns on top of your spare tire before you pulled off.

If it wasn't an animal, what would the random crunching sound be?

Not really a cat person myself but they are great at keeping the rats at bay

I'd be more worried about a rat chewing through my wiring.....

Did the sound seem to be coming from your exhaust area?
my stock muffler would rattle sometimes right after start, but it'd be a distinct metallic rattle.

Rat is definitely a concern hence the 3 outdoor cats. They've caught huge rats!!

Is condensation an issue out of a leak? Sorry, I'm so new to trucks and anything mechanical.

No concern, its normal. You blow out the moisture when you drive it anyway.
