I bought a 2008 Silverado this past November and noticed that it doesn't govern. I was able to bury 120 and was curious if this was due to a tune or if they stopped governing these trucks

ALL GM vehciles except 'race' like camaro/vette ect are speed limited to apprx 98 mph.
if you went 120, yes your truck has been modigied.
now, you need to see if you have a stock driveline, as they are well known to explode around 100 mph.
also tires with a speed rating of 120 or higher is needed, as if you experience a blow out at speed it sucks.
