I had a 2013 6.0 and it called for the fully synthetic.

 

My oil cap says 5w30. I'm assuming that's a regular oil?

 

I haven't yet looked at my Manuel though

 

It should tell you in the owners manual
but it won't hurt it to use the full synthetic any way.
just don't switch back and forth stick with it.
you can get longer life out of the oil.

 

Any suggestions on brand?

 

I have faithfully changed the oil in my 6.0 every year. I use Mobil 1 and an M1 filter. It now has 11,000 miles! Each change had +/- 2500 miles on it.

Why skimp on oil?

 

My father has 315k on his 89 1500 and changed the conventional oil every 3k. While towing work trailers and never had an issue. My last truck same deal but only 110k. This current one I switched to mobile1 full synthetic, so we shall see

Stick a good named brand oil in it and don't worry yourself to death about it.

 

OE spec was Dexos 5W30. Any full synthetic 5W30 will be better.

 

I don't think there are any conventional oils that meet dexos spec so if you want to go my what gm says, you'd need at least a semi synthetic.

I run synthetic fluid in everything. Diffs, engine etc. And that's in every vehicle I own. Even lawn mowers.

I'm a fan of pennzoil platinum for the oil and a Fram ultra filter.

But really you can't go wrong with any name brand full synthetic and a good filter.
