Tailgate Assist - Best Mod so Far

I added the little shock absorber that goes on the tailgate to help with lowering the tailgate. It was easy. I put it on myself. When I lowered the tailgate the first time, it was great. No worry that if the tailgate slipped out of my hand it would slam and if your hands are full you don't have to worry, the tailgate just glides down. It works great with the torsion bars that help put the tailgate up. Great affordable mod.

I installed one about a year ago. One of the most convenient things on my truck. It seems I never can remember to lower the gate until my hands are full! Kind of pricey I thought for what it is, about 45-50 bucks.

How-to is wicked easy. Mostly all the kits I've seen are just a couple of screws you put in existing holes and pop on the shock. Then again, I don't have a NBS truck so your mileage may vary.

I added one of these to my truck mostly because I know how to lower a tailgate but most people don't...and as mentioned in "other" posts, Silverado tailgates aren't made out of Kryptonite and titanium ;)

Damn.. that is awesome. I never thought of how much of a pain in the ass my tailgate can be sometime. This will be ordered next week for sure!

no the new trucks dont come with the assists i have a friend with a '07 silverado and he added one im going to get one when i get back to the states, and man its worth it, if not for the ease then the fact that my wife wont break my tailgate when she drops it to let my dog in and out.

Don't the new Chevy/GMCs come with easy lift tail gates? Mine goes up super easy with one hand.
This is for lowering it. You can let go of the tailgate after you unlatch it, it will not slam down. I had one of these on my last truck and it was called EZ-DOWN made by DeeZee.

The down side I seen from having it is anytime you open anyone else's tailgate you are sure to slam it and have to apologize

Here's a video demonstrating it on youtube

I don't know if all the new Silverado/Sierras come with the easy up assist, it may be part of the all-star package (on mine) which gives a lot of common things people look for. As this is my first pick-up I really don't have anything to compare it to and will have to test dropping the gate to see if the feature slows it down. I know the gate isn't that bad to lift and will have to compare it against my friends trucks the next time I camp with them.

Well, yet another thing my LTZ doesn't have - although the salesman told me it "it has every option there is". Liar!! Unless there's button somewhere I haven't pushed. Yep, someday I will get around to reading that owner's manual...

Kelly,

Where did you get yours? A quick search led me to zilch. We're talking some of the major truck parts houses and they didn't have it for a Silverado, or maybe its just the 2011 model.
