Hey everyone!
So I drive a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 4x4 5.3 L v8 and my driveshaft has literally snapped in half ! I was not experiencing any vibration unless it gradually did over time and I never noticed... but definitely nothing noticeable or any noise coming from it even on the highway. I was not hauling any weight when it happened, and I was not going at a high speed (thankfully) It was off a red light I went to accelerate and it just snapped and I heard the drive shaft flinging around hitting stuff. Ive attached some pictures so you guys can see what happened its honestly hard for me to wrap my head around it haha.
Im happy it did not happen in the middle of no where because I have not had any issues in the past and take good care of my truck.
When I did take the back piece of the drive shaft off I noticed the rear U bolt was quite stiff one of the ways when I would try and move it. But I wouldn't think that would be enough to literally snap it in half.... my only thought is that it was damaged perviously because I did buy it used at just over 100,000 KM but everything was redone before I bought it from the dealership. I am now at 150,000km I have taken the plate off the differential with my neighbour who is a mechanic and we spun the back wheels checking all the gears inside making sure nothing would catch and everything looked fine. The diff fluid was also very clean. My only thought was somehow that U-bolt caused this or the aluminum was deficient.
Anyone have any other thoughts ?
