I have a 2012 Silverado Texas edition with 5.3 v8 and a 3.08 ratio. Brother has. 5800 dry weight travel trailer so I'm hoping I can borrow it. I'll be getting tires suitable for towing and an equalizer hitch if I do tow it but would that be alright. I've called several different RV places and they thought it was fine.

What's your thoughts?

The 3.08 ratio will be tough, be sure and use tow/haul and let the truck downshift/rev so it's in the power band.

Yea, think I'm gonna save up for a 3.42 or 3.73

3.73 seems to be the best all around gear.

I think a .308 is going to struggle. Long uphill grades will probably be a slow climb. I definitely would not make it a regular thing. Going to have to go very light in the trailer I'd imagine.

So struggling but the damage if any will be the gear ratio that I'll hopefully will be changing soon?

Damage would be to the transmission struggling. Keep an eye on your temps

It won't be super happy but it will do it. Just let it do its thing. It will want to Rev high since it won't be able to hold the higher gears too well.

Will occasional towing this thing severely lower the life expectancy?

Well the main thing I'd worry about is trans temp. So keep an eye on that. If it climbs too high I'd definitely pull over and let it cool down.

I'd also want to change the trans fluid and filter more often. Along with rear diff oil and engine oil. Really everything will be working harder. But it's that way towing with anything.
