Hello. I have a 1996 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 5.7 107,000 miles
The problem I am having is that when I drive long distances on highway my truck will not start after it is parked. However, it will start if it sits over night or for several hours but you can not go into a store for 15 minutes and come out and try to drive it. It will crank just not turn over. I have replaced coil and ignition module. Also, the truck is not overheating it stays at regular operating temp. Any ideas will help. Thanks!

First thing i would do is first off scan it and see what codes are in it. Then if you still dont have a direction to go, check for spark when this occurs, if not then you have a starting direction to test that system step by step. If you do have spark do a fuel pressure and volume check.

Given the age and mileage of your truck I would do a compression check when it is hot. Hard starting when hot is a classic symptom of low compression usually caused by valve issues or worn compression rings on the pistons. If compression is low when its hot squirt some oil into the cylinder and retest if the piston rings are the problem then compression will increase if not then its the valves causing the problem. Hope this helps.

Spray some ether into the intake, and then try to start.
If it starts and then dies, you know you have a fuel feed problem.
The thing is that it's doing it after it has ran awhile. So definitely temperature related. You'll want to start checking items under the hood that are affected by temperature. Seems to me that something stops working properly when it has been heat soaked.
