finally did it. after doing tons of research on the way the bose system functions on our trucks i found the way to make everything work.

i have read so much and looked at so many electrical schematics i felt m head was going to explode. took me about a month of researching and finally did my first test with great success to far. its been 24hrs since i did this and the system is going strong. no blown fuses or engine noise .

so the people at BOSE are no help at all when it comes to getting info about there system. the dealership has no clue or just doesn't want anyone to upgrade. the other companies that make adapters just want to sell you more electrical components to add to your already complicated Bose system.

ok so i bought my truck brand new back in december of 09 . i have kept it stock this whole time but just hated to Bose sound system it came with. my truck has so many add ons from factory that i did not want to lose any of them also i do not want to cut any factory wires or harnesses off.did that with my last car and 10 years later when i had to put it back to stock it was a pain in the butt. so did not want to do that again.

finally about 2 months ago i just couldn't take that lame system anymore i have tons of cool audio stuff just sitting in my closet so i decided to go ahead and put a nice sound quality "SQ" sound system together.

my goal to have a "great" sounding system that just blends into my truck. keep everything hidden make it look stock. i want everything to work. steering wheel controls,on-star,back up sensors, warning chimes, turn signals, blue tooth,XM radio.

ok what i found out is that "GM" has 2 kind of Bose sound systems.
1. the standard Bose system .its in about all there Bose equipped cars and trucks
Image

the standard amp has the 3 harness plugs you see above.

2.the Bose luxury system. the speakers and sub are the same ones as the standard system but it has a way better amp. feeds more power and sounds better than the standard system. that one comes in GMC denali,Cadillacs, and some top of the line silverados.
that amp has 4 harness plugs.
Image

the amp is also slightly bigger
Image

i came to find out that there is big difference between both systems besides the power.

luxury system has a smart amplifier . there is a bus data line that runs from the head unit to the amp. the amp does all the thinking and crossover points for the system. it takes care of all the chimes , sensors , blue tooth, on and on. so the amp is very important to the system

the standard Bose system has a "DUMB" amp. its nothing more than a slave unit it does nothing more than amplify the signal. it does have a built in crossover that all the settings are set for. when the volume goes up past a certain point the amp turns power down to the sub to protect it . other than that the amp does nothing more.all your chimes , on-star, sensors, on and on (lol) are processed through your head unit.

after finding that out and knowing the bean counters at GM i knew that the standard bose amp was not going to have a signal sensing amp to turn on when it knows there is sound coming in. but the had to be a remote 12volt wire.
guess what? THERE IS

i came to find out that Bose did do some nice things to the head unit.the stock head unit from GM that are Bose the output from the unit to the amp are NOT high level speaker outputs like your regular non-bose head units. instead they are low level rca signals . i removed the cable and stripped back enough electrical tape to find not speaker cable but rca cable.
it also feeds a balanced low level signal. with a ground bleeder. so no engine noise is pick up. now my amps can handle balanced inputs
some amplifiers don't. but thats not a problem audio-control makes signal converters that make a balanced signal to analog so you can still keep your amp. there not too expensive.
the Bose head unit outputs 6.5 volts WOW that blows away a lot of the after market units out there .so after testing out all my research i went ahead and searched for weeks to find a harness i was not going to cut my cables

well this is what i came up with . the stock BOSE head unit sounds incredible . i cant believe the stock head unit can produce such a clean signal to my amps.

best of all EVERYTHING works like factory. my chime , turn signals are not amplified they sound just like before. even though im running some major power and all new speakers.

the factory Bose head unit feeds 4 channels out. front, left , right, and rear , left, right. the stock Bose amp internally separates the signal and gives you front, left , right, rear , left , right , but also sends out a sub output. the sub output is created by the amp not the head unit. the head unit just feeds a clean unfiltered full signal.

so this is what i made . its a straight plug and play. it plugs in at the center console . dont even have to remove the deck. i removed my amp and sub out of the center console . everything works great.

i will keep you posted incase i find any bugs. i have been thinking of maybe selling some if everything works out. to recover some of the cost of the special crimpers i had to buy to crimp the special harness pins i had to buy. those new pins GM is using are so small that the tyco and molex crimpers are too big.

by the way as far as i know this wont work on luxury Bose systems .

i will late do a full post on my set up . once i catch up on some quality time with my family. this project took lots of time just to get a simple easy solution.

bose upgrade with no adapter

No I'm not making any harnesses . I have way too much stuff going on too many projects that have been started but all need to be finished.lol

If you look at the first post there is a link at the bottom . It will take you to my other post showing you how to make your own.

The first post also talks about the difference between the lux and standard amp.
Lux amp is pretty much a computer that controls all you factory stuff.

^^^^^^^ AOEM-GM24. ?

Well this write up is for NNBS 07-13 trucks . Older trucks I am not familiar with and that adapter is for older trucks .

It's not that I have anything against older trucks. I just don't happen to own one to know about the system.

One thing that this mod does it eliminates the Bose amp out of the system completely

As you turn up the volume the factory Bose amplifier lowers your bass output to protect the factory speakers.
So when you tap into the system with an adapter after the Bose amplifier the amp is still killing your bass output.

Kudo's on figuring out how to get this working and making up your own harness to boot! I have a question maybe you (or someone) can answer for me sort of along the lines of what you did. I am considering building a box, adding an AMP, and wiring everything up to my factory NAV head unit. I have some decent Polk Audio speakers I am replacing for the factory ones and would liketo add a little power to these as well. So I was thinking a decent 5ch AMP should do the trick. So my questions would be:

1. Most AMPs I've seen have a sub input but obviously the factory head unit doesn't have a SUB output. Can I find an AMP that will take the LOW level inputs from the front and rear out of the HU and use an internal crossover to output to the sub?

2. Recommended amp for this?

Hi whippled496
Sorry it took so long for me to reply I have not been on this site for a while.
Every amp manufacture has different set ups for there amps. If you happen to buy a 5 channel amp. Most can run off of just 1 set of RCA's but you won't have front rear control.
But if you run both sets you front and rear you will have control of front rear . On most 5 channel amps running a sub input is taken care of internally so you don't need that 3rd set of RCA's
Most amps now at days have built in crossovers taking care of the sound signal.

I used a 4 channel amp for my mids and highs both set of RCA's going into my amp.
But my amp has RCA outputs.
It sends the rear signal output to my sub amp as a sub signal .every manufacture makes their stuff different so just look at the specs before you buy.
I won't say which brand to buy cause everyone has their favorite brand . But with car audio you get what you pay for.
My system has been going strong daily abuse since 1999. This set of amps and speakers were in my other car then installed in this truck. The only thing replaced were the rear door speakers.
But you always can add an audiocontrol in dash eq or crossover with volume control that will give you all 3 RCA's .
I did have one before and loved it. Sold it

I would also be interested in one of those?
So if I just went and had a new Kicker amp and door speakers installed
I would loose all the bells and whistles?
Wasnt sure what you were doing.
just upgrading your system with same stock or only way to make it sound better and keep noise etc out and keep all the goodies in tact.

There are many way to add amps to your system. If your planning on buying a new head unit then this post is completely useless . But if all you want to do is up grade your stock system and keep all your factory options working with out the use of aftermarket add on just to keep you warning chimes and turn signals ect ect. This is the best way to do so. But I'm not making any harnesses to sell. Sorry too busy with other projects . I have other post showing how to make them

Awesome
That's what I though you were doing.
No I'm not interested in replacing head unit.
maybe just adding amp and speakers max.
If this type of harness and luxury amp does the trick im in!
Thank you so much for the info.
Not pleased with the stock Bose system

I'm about to do this same setup, using a 4 channel amp with RCA outs to go to a sub amp. A question- when bypassing the Bose amp completely, how do your chimes and such from the radio stay the same volume as stock when the signal is now being amped up with a new amp?

I realize this an old post, but does anybody have info on where I can get the molex connectors for this mod? I am going to do this, and I may as well make some extras to sell as several members here indicated they are interested in buying, so I assume some others may want to do the same by now. If I can get the correct molex pins, I may be willing to put together a few of these. Thanks!

Ok, I found all this very interesting considering I have a 2014 all terrain with some form of Bose. Although I don't want to go all out and value my cab space I have no idea if mine has a sub or not. I don't wish to change head units or factory speakers unless I switched to a better sub but would like some more power and your right Bose and chevy offer very little help. How nice would it be to plug n play with these new Bose systems. Thinking either a couple 8s or possibly 1 500+rms 10" sub. I don't listen to bass like I used to at 40yr old but love some rock and it has many lows as well. I want to do more research but any and all help appreciated.

This right up only works for the NNBS 07-13 trucks . When they did the redesign in 14 every thing changed. The amp is now located behind the rear seats. I think. Don't know if the harnesses and wires have been changed . Only way is to know is to have a factory service manual and be able to read schematics and have a good meter to test things before hooking anything up .

I haven't been getting updates anytime people reply to this old post I made . But update.
Still working great . No issues at all . As far as the chimes . You control the volume of them through the DIC system. they sound just like the factory level they were at . Nothing like the adaptor people put on to make an amp work . I know my friend had one of those pac things . He ended up getting rid of it and doing this .

I'd be happy to buy one of your connectors, or equally happy to compensate you simply for providing me proper intel to do it myself.

I'm desperately attempting to find information related to tapping into the low level inputs (RCA) that feed the Bose amplifier (RPO UQS, 2018 Yukon XL Denali). I can find schematics for high-level speaker wiring online, but I don't see any wiring info for wiring INTO amplifier. (I want to tap into pre-amp low level signals)

Do you know the wiring schematic, or where I could find it?
Would this cause any issues? (NAV voice command input, etc.) - I could leave the amp intact with other wires, just need RCA's to other amps.

I have a 2015 with 'standard' bose. I added a sub (speaker level from the rear doors) and I've noticed it doesn't sound good. I thought it was the sub, so this morning I swapped the new sub out for the one I had in my F150. It's 1.2cuft ported 10" RF P2 sub. Used to be really good in that truck (doesn't fit in this one, thus the new sub). The low end improved slightly, but still not what I'm looking for. So, changing out the sub is not the answer.

Your post is great, thank you!

I'm thinking that even if I tap into the speaker level, the bose system is still going to reduce the bass at high volumes. Any idea if the HU is doing that, or the bose amp? Even if I get a sound processor like 3.sixty3, the input sound is going to vary at different levels. I suppose I'd liken that to the old 'loudness' button on older home stereos. I'd rather however have a clean, flat signal from the HU.

Suggestions? I realize my truck is 2015, and not the ones funnytoe researched.

Too bad GM doesn't just offer a HU software patch to add a multi-band eq and/or strip all the bose functionality away. It really does sound like garbage, especially at 75% volume.
