Vintage Rally Wheels on newer trucks...

I have always liked these rally wheels. I am surprised I haven't seen this before. I did not do a search on this site, but I figured I that would not find many folks who like these vintage wheels. I think they look great... but then I am NOT a fan of large rims... really really not a fan. My 1970 Pontiac Formula 400 had factory 14's... yes 14's! The younger kids today seem to love the 20's and larger. Times change, styles change, but my tastes have NOT changed... call me old (born in mid 60's).

I grew up with a subscription to "CARtoons" & I see vehicles today with tires that have almost no side walls and it takes me back to the magazine I used to read in the 70's.

This is only one man's opinion about rim size, and I know I am in the minority.

I think I will try to PhotoShop some silver Rally Wheels onto my 2011.

You are not alone, i like the old Rally style rims like the ones pictured, but i picture them more on a late 80/early 90's style 2WD.
I remember those CARtoons magazines, used to love reading them, and the iron ons, and the How To Draw section.
It's funny i remember George Trosley because he did the Kras And Bernie cartoon in the mag and then years later while looking at a more "adult" magazine (AKA Penthouse) i seen he was doing adult cartoons for that magazine. lol

I think it looks good. I'm not a huge fan of overly large rims either. In my opinion, a 17" or 18" rim is perfect for trucks that have 33" or smaller tires. I can see a step up to 20's with 37" tires and maybe 35's, but 20" is pretty much my limit. I've seen a few 22's on lowered trucks that pulled it off, but overall, I think that rims over 20" typically look hideous.

DUDE THAT IS SICK!!!! what size rim is that? i ran 15" rims on my 98 and loved it still looked flashy just like yours and were very deep dish while the tries cost damn near nothing...think tires cost about 90 bucks a piece for Mud Terrain 33x12.50x R15 i love that lol

I should have clarified... that is not my truck. I found the image on the internet while searching for something else. I assume they are 15's.

I did check on the tires... they are about half price for the BFG's. There would be a bit more side wall roll in corners if I get the same 33's I have on my 17 inch rims currently.

I hate the larger rim sizes they are putting on today's vehicles. I sold my 2010 Challenger R/T because I HATED the 20inch tires and you couldn't put a tire with sidewalls on the darn thing (the brake rotors were too big). I think low profile tires look like crap on any vehicle. Give me some Cragar SS wheels or some old school Rally wheels and I will be happy. I too was born in the 60's

heck i was born in 1988...but u cant beat an old 70 chevy sky jacked on some 15 inch rims with a ton of rubber around it. i dont mind the big rims as long as your have a lift to compensate the differnce.....but f i am driving an car from over seas i want it crushed on some skinny tires

I'm with you on this one. I very much prefer the smaller rims. When I ordered my '12 in, I asked if there was any way I could get a 15" rim, and they said nope, don't even make 'em anymore. Smallest I could get was 17". biggest rim I ever had beforehand was a set of 16.5's on my old 4x4, but then again it had 37" tires.

Hey guys, newby here. I would love to be able to install a set of 15" 6-lug deep rally's on my 2000 2wd Silverado. I have heard this may be possible with some grinding on the calipers on the front brakes....anyone know for sure? I'm looking for that old school look with some fat BF Goodrich tires like I had on my old '78. I know these were often put on 88-98 trucks but other than this pic I have never seen them on '99 and up.

Thanks!

you might be able to get away with 15's on a 2000, back then they may not have had the gigantic brakes they do nowadays. The only way to find out for sure will be to find some and slap 'em on!

Here's mine! 16's with 265's looking to get a leveling kit so I can put 285's around it for some more sidewall I really like the chubby tire around my chrome.

I personally don't like anything bigger than 17" on a 4x4 truck. Mine has chrome 20's, because it came with them...i'd gladly straight trade for a nice set of black\machined 17x9s.
