Here's an interesting one. Before I change my encoder ring today I thought I'd ask about this:

With the 4WD fuse removed from the side panel at the dash, the TC still shifts into all gears. The lights blink, but the shift is made and I can feel and hear the 4WD engage and work.

What does this fuse do?

The 4WD fuse powers in the dash fusebox the front axle actuator, you may be hearing the encoder motor shift the transfer case but it is not in 4WD till the axle actuator engages the front axle. The blinking lights indicate the axle is not engaged.

The 30A TREC fuse in the underhood fusebox is what powers the transfer case control module and the encoder motor.

If I'm stuck in 4WD, can I pull the TREC fuse under the hood and drive with no harm? I read somewhere online that tm doing so will give me 2WD and I can get to the dealer safer
