What exactly is Z71 package?

Not sure if this goes here but, what exactly comes with a Z71 package? I was checking my RPO codes on my new truck and did not see the Z71 code, but the truck has Z71 stickers on it. Am I gonna get screwed by the dealership?

Thanks

Basicly it is a little different suspension package and some extra skid plates. It should have the Z-71 designation on the RPO sticker if it has it.
Nope, no z71 sticker on the RPO code sticker in the glove box. Iy just has the stickers on the truck bed.

Z71 "OFF ROAD" CHASSIS PACKAGE 'OFF ROAD' CHAS PKG(Z71)

You mean you don't see Z71 as one of the codes on the sticker in the glove box? Well, I guess it's entirely possible the stickers are aftermarket?

Directly from the chevrolet website :
The available Z71 Off-Road Package includes:

•Z71 Off-Road suspension
•46mm twin-tube high-pressure gas-charged shocks
•Skid Plate Package with a frame-mounted shield
•GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential that provides added grip when you need it
•Available Z71 Appearance Package: 18" aluminum wheels, body-color mirrors and door handles, body-color grille with chrome insert, and Rancho® shocks
One of my buds almost bought a bogus Z71 optioned truck last year. He came by to see what I thought of a 2007 truck he was going to buy from a used car dealer. As we were talking, the subject of the G80 locking differential came up and I was going to show him the code to look for but it was not there, then I noticed the Z71 option code was not there either but the skip plate option was NZZ. He backed out of buying the truck and told the used car dealer why but he said nothing. Looking at the decals on the truck it seemed like they were brand new and showed no signs of being 5 yrs old.
this has me curious. i just bought the last brand new '13 this past month. its not a 4wd but it has the z71 sticker on the bed (both sides). to bring up the convo about the same body color mirrors and door handles. would i find these codes on the window sticker from the truck?
Codes are on a grey decal inside the glovebox.
Correct me if I'm wrong here. I admit I'm wrong from time to time.

I don't want to call them "fake Z71s" but it seems that since around 07-08ish, GM decided to offer 2wd trucks with the "Z71 suspension package". They sit up a little higher (and probably ride) like a 4x4 Z71 but still lack the 4x4 ability. Then there's the "true" Z71s that have the 4x4 capability. From the early 90s' (or was it late 80s?) when GM introduced the Z71 package, any Silverado or Sierra that came off the factory line with the Z71 badge was 4x4. My first truck, a '97 Z71.. 4x4. My buddy's old '93 Z71... 4x4. Seems like they turned it into a big marketing technique for buyers who want the Z71 look but don't want to pay for the 4x4 package. Kind of like throwing a Z28 badge on a V6 Camaro like my neighbor did.
There is a Z71 pkg and a Z71 Appearance pkg.

From my limited knowledge I know there is a suspension package and an appearance package. I had some of the appearance package added on when I bought mine. The whole front shabang was changed and they put the stickers on. I feel like a poser at times with a 2wd truck and Z71 stickers. Although, it doesn't say 4x4 or off road anywhere.
And you can have 2 styles of bed stickers. Some that only says Z71 (for 2wd) and the Z71 4x4

You can check on google image
I feel less of a poser now. Thanks for the clarification. I'll wear em' proud!

There are actually 3 styles of OEM. "Z71" decals for the GMT900.
You have "Z71" for the fake 2wd guys.
The "Z71 4x4" for the regular Z71 package.
Then you have the Z71 appearance package trucks that have larger "Z71 4x4" bedside decals.

If there is no Z71 and no G80 on your glove box sticker, it's not a Z71 truck. Unfortunately there are crooked dealerships out there who pull stunts like this all the time. By adding those decals they can claim it's Z71 and price the truck higher.

Many crook dealers did this with the S10 ZR2 blazer and trucks. They added the stickers and a body lift and sold it as a used ZR2 package vehicle. People who don't know any better fall for stuff like that all the time. Before you buy any vehicle do your research and know what to look for so you don't get ripped off.
For what it is worth, it looks like most of the items are available "a la carte", so you can just get the stickers on the truck if you want.
Lame, I know.
I have a 2005 and a 2014 Silverado Z71. Both of my trucks say Z71 off road. I have seen Z71, I have seen Z71 4x4, and Z71 off road.

Z71 - Delivers enhanced off-road capability; features 46mm shocks, off-road jounce bumpers and a 34mm front stabilizer bar; the package also includes a skid plate, heavy-duty air cleaner and Z71 decals on the rear fenders

The heavy duty air cleaner cracks me up, I have never seen a truck with the light duty air cleaner, has anyone else seen the LD air cleaner, it takes a smaller filter.
The only difference between the light duty and heavy duty air cleaner on the new 1500s is the thickness of the filter.
Length and width are the same. Same air filter housing too.
Interesting, so it should really say heavy duty air filter, not air cleaner.

That explains alot. My nephew just bought a matching truck to mine. When we put them next to each other we found alot of differences. All that you mentioned. So are the Rancho shocks better than my Z71 shocks?
