I have a 2011 Silverado LT 4X4 crew cab. My owner's manual says to keep snow chains off the front. Options include StabiliTrak, Traction Control, Brake Traction Control, and 4x4 Auto. The engine is 4.8L.

What's the deal?

If the rear wheels are spinning, then the load is put on the front. Also with the tires being steering wheels, it puts more load on other components not meant to take that abuse. Best to put on main drive wheels. Another reason is that the 4 WD system needs the slip between wheels and axles to work with out binding.

Why No Chains on the Front?

Probably has to do with clearance up front in these models when making turns or maybe the brakes.

You can put chains on the front, find out if anything happens then you can update the rest of us as why or why not.
