not sure those would work...ball shank is too short to get the nut and spacer/lock nut on it, and those reducers don't seem to have anything that reduces from 2", down. Thanks so much for everyone's help...I just KNEW this was NOT a normal receiver.

If a ball can not be found for this, will I ruin the integrity of the bumper if I remove it and install an aftermarket receiver? I'd kick myself if after I did all of this, I step on the center of the bumper and bend it! It sure does seem the only thing I can do is replace the useless POS.

Pulling from the bumper is a bad idea.

I have never seen a trailer where it lines up correctly on a truck. Always ends up nose up, which is not good at all.

Receivers are cheap, and then you can get a hitch that fits the needs of the trailer in order to adjust the height as needed.

As far as the bumper, you should be fine after installing a new receiver

We must be missing something here, the link you posted to the part number shows a 3/4" X 3" ball as an "also purchased" item

OK, I just went out and looked at some of our trucks, all of our 1500 with 5.3 have the 2" receiver hitch.
One of the Colorado's has the same thing as you do.
Take off the plastic cover on the bumper and the hole will let you mount the ball directly to the hitch you have, it goes through the bumper and does not let the bumper carry any weight.

I would think that those kind of towing setups would be much too far off the ground for most trailers to tow correctly (Safely).

Googled GM part number. It's not a receiver type hitch.

after talking to a few people in different dealerships, I found someone willing to tell me what this thing really is. Essentially it's nothing more than a bumper supporter and light duty (like towing leaves, light) bumper hitch. So grateful for all the replies. Thanks to everyone that shared some input!

Yeah I completely misunderstood you at first.

I thought you wanted to mount a ball to the bumper because you did not want to take out the typical 2" square receiver hitch with ball on it.

I wonder if you got that one installed due to your engine and trim model, as it cant tow a lot from factory anyway.

That bumper material is .0 too thin, and I wouldn't tow anything with it. Put a hitch on it for under $100, and be done.
