Welcome to the forums Gene! Always good to have new GM owners, and the 6.2 is a beast engine..

I'm not a TPMS guy, don't have it myself, but plenty here do and tow, so you'll get some good information soon enough..

Pros: You now know exactly what is in your tires
Cons: You will have to replace them eventually (although this may be 8 years from now)

Are you referring to the actual truck having it or are you talking about the advanced trailering package that have TPMS capabilities with the trailer tires too?

Welcome Gene!

Being almost 67 years old, and having towed all kinds of trailers my entire driving life, the first thing I ask myself when the latest and greatest new electronics comes out on a vehicle is: Just why do I need that, and how long have I done just fine without it?

Personally I think trailer tpms is a great idea.

It can give you a heads up of something is potentially about to go wrong.

The tpms is something that can be annoying sometimes, but overall I think its handy to have.

If my truck had the ability to have native trailer tpms, and I had a trailer that I regularly towed, or owned, then I'd definitely get a set of sensors. In my opinion, a set of sensors is cheaper than replacing the side of of your trailer if they were able to give you a heads up to let you know a tire is low and is in need of attention, before it blows out and gets your full attention while going down the highway haha.

Old fart here too.
I also think that value of installation/use of trailer wheel sensors depends on trailer usage?

I like to also consider how much grief will I have if I don't have the new gadget (TTPMS) and I have the fault that it help avoid?

In the case of the trailer I use for long distances I carry spare wheel. blocking, tools, hyd jack etc...cause an issue in the middle of nowhere and a long way from home can cause a lot of grief.

The trailers, (yes, more than one around here) that never get more than a few miles from home -- I don't worry about carrying all the 'stuff' when using them. Worst case, unhook, drive home and get the stuff, go and fix it.

Current ride is first unit with trailer tire monitoring capability. It was ordered with a set of sensors.
I know that only one of my trailers has any chance of me installing sensors in the wheels.

What is your definition of a lot?

To me a lot is my father in law who runs a catfish guiding service and tows his boat 3-5 times a week up to 2 hours away sometimes.

In my opinion it would be handy to have if you tow that much or more, just to be able to keep a watch on it.

Thanks folks! Y’all talked me into trying them.
Rancher, not quite to the 67 mark yet, but damm close! Guess we both close enuf to the “old fart” class. Lol
Bradley, I live about 5 miles from the Miss River, know a couple of guides.
My trailering (bass boat) amounts to about 5000 miles a yr. I go back/forth to hot springs,ar(160miles) couple times a month, and to Sam Rayburn( 400mi) couple times a year.
Me, being in Aviation/ farming my entire life, I am ready for most issues, but it’s easier, less stressful if I know they bout to happen! Lol
Thanks
Gene
