1999 silverado 1500 bad tranny?

Postby Chevy133 [OP] » Jan 12 2016, 7:18am

I have a 1999 silverado 1500 and lately ive been noticing something going on with what i think is the tranny. from a stop as i accelerate at a normal speed, not flooring it, my truck shifts when it hits around 4500rpm. it used to shift at around 3000. also if im going 40mph or more and i put the pedal down it acts like it kicks into neutral and then redlines for a couple seconds until it finally does the downshift and takes off.. i have recently bought a superchip which allows me to adjust shift pressures and times. i have heard people say that if the mass air flow sensor gets dirty or if the cat gets clogged up it can cause the truck to rev higher before shifting. im really hoping its not the tranny here. oh, i have a K&N cold air intake put on along with dual exhaust w/ the cat still on and a throttle body spacer, along with a 3in rc lift and a leveling kit.

Have you checked the Trans fluid level, color, smell? Check engine lights on? Did this happen after you bought the Superchips Programmer?

I forgot to put that in there, I actually just changed the tranny fluid, pan and filter about a month ago and it made no difference. Check engine light is on but it's for a knock sensor. Chip doesn't read any other codes. When I started noticing it was when I got the programmer.

I think your due for a rebuild. the 4L60E can be weak sometimes. How many miles on it? This is exactly what my truck was doing when a rebuild was needed.

Since it happened when you installed the tune, I am going to guess that you have to go in a reset your shift pattern. It is too much of a coincidence that it occurred at the same time.

there are two different pan depths. if you installed a shallow pan filter in a deep pan you could be sucking air at times.
