AAM11.5 D***e helical diff

AAM11.5 D***e helical diff

Postby woody01zf6 [OP] » Mar 31 2020, 1:20am

I found one for sale with 3.42 gears. Will it work with the 4.10s in my truck? I know some older GM differentials are different carriers for different ratios.

neg gears are gears. You can have different housings from different brands but they still need to match what you have. 4.10s or whatever it is you want to go with.

I have heard of people exploding transfer cases with 4.10s front and 4.27s in back thinking it would be ok.

Biggest mismatch that I have heard is from F**d it had a 3.54/3.50 ratio combo.. and I think GM had a 4.09/4.10 at one point.

I'm not talking about mixing gear ratios. That would be dumb... I'm talking about swapping my GM 4.10 gears onto the D***e carrier that previously had 3.42 gears.

Said differently, will my GM ring gear work, or do I need a D***e ring gear?

Yes the diff will work fine.

It has been done many times over on the duramax side of things.
