Loud Clunk

Loud Clunk

Postby Joseph [OP] » Apr 01 2013, 7:35am

Morning! Sometimes when I come to a complete stop my Truck makes a clunk noise. Sometimes it also does it when taking off or going over a bump. Only sometimes though. Any ideas? Possible Transmission mount?

I'd say it's probablt the normal GM driveline clunk, or, it might be a sticking slip yoke. That is a common problem. You can google it and see how to fix the problem.

Could you be a bit more specific about where you feel that the sound originates?

Thanks for the replies. Imagin you have something in the bed of your Truck and you come to a complete stop and it hits the back wall. That's what it feels and sounds like. I'm guessing it's coming from the back. That's why I wondered if it was a transmission mount.

man this sounds all too familiar. I had this exact thing in my 2000 and it drove me crazy. Mine turned out to be the driveline clunk. Good luck figuring it out.

FuzzyB has a good point... Check your Universal joints for play.

I had that on my 98 but it was just my hitch in the bed that I forgot about. Sucked trying to figure it out but when I did I was relieved. It was a cheap fix.

The description sounds a lot like what I experienced before I pulled my driveshaft out and greased the slip yoke. It's amazing at how much that helped. Now I only rarely get the 'clunk' when I go in reverse, or shift from 1-2

What does the grease do? Act as a cushion?
