Lots of good info here. This could potentially save someone thousands of dollars, not to mention from the great state of NC!

My 4L70E shifts out of OD abve 40 mph easily, too easily and I *think the trans fluid smells a bit burnt.
I've got 120,000 miles VortecMax. Trans. fluid changed out at 100,000. Never had any other issue.
TIA for help

No 3rd and OD in my 4l60e

Postby camohunter32515 » Apr 18 2016, 9:07pm

Bought a rebuilt trans from a shop and I think I got screwed over in it. Looked and acted like it was never rebuilt. So I went I bought a trans out of another truck, out that one in and it was doing the same thing. Got that one rebuilt and it's still happening. 1st and 2nd are fine but acts like it's in neutral when it should be in 3rd. So if it's not the 3-4 clutch pack then what could it be. I've pretty much gone broke trying to figure this out. I'm thinking more electrical but don't know where to start. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I've been stuck out of town for over a month now and have gone broke in the process and still have to get home.

I'm quoting myself to get some help here.

If my trans. is flipping in and out of OD too easily and often do I have a typical problem with these 4L70E units? This is going to help me decide if I should bail or pop for a GM certified rebuilt unit.

Nobody?
I'm hoping this is simple eg reflash the electronics however I'm preparing myself for a rebuild. Admittedly timid to take it to a transmission shop, they tend to find problems ;) That said, can anyone recommend a reputable trans. shop in Rockville, MD?

Thanks for the reply. I'm real close to letting my dealer run diagnostic. Curiously, they have always treated me right.

Running around in "3" is not a huge deal but I'd like to get this fixed.
