Tranny shenaigans

On my 2010 Silverado, I have noticed a few issues. The tranny is holding gear too long when pulling my small boat ( 700 lbs with trailer and motor) going up any grade. at highway speeds it holds 3rd and gives a BANG going into 4th. 2nd, my service 4wd soon came on. its always in 2 hi on the selector (wheeled one), not auto.

I do have a tune on the truck, but not serious. I havnt touched the tranny settings for the tuner. Its a Hypertech.

Do you use the "TOW/HAUL" mode when towing?

for 700 lbs, no. if I have a serious load- IE mulch or a fiberglass boat, absolutely.

Take your tune off and see if it changes, that's the easiest thing you can try before diving into it. And they hypertech canned tunes could change your tranny settings even if you don't manually do it.

Good idea to pull the tune. But, I would also try the tow/haul as well if removing the tune doesn't help.

Well with the tranny learning your driving habits it's always a good idea to return to stock or retune it from time to time if it starts acting odd and reset it's learning curve. Wether it helps or not is debatable, there are a few threads on here about it. But I have noticed a difference when I do it.
