Transmission service frequency

Transmission service frequency

Postby vdubcub81 [OP] » May 23 2020, 10:10pm

Curious what you folks might suggest? The owners manual recommends servicing the transmission (14 Silverado 1500 w/ 5.3, and 6L80 trans) at 90k miles but I had it done at 60k. I drive my truck daily and it now has 104k miles on it. I also use it to tow a 6000 pound travel trailer probably once a month on average give or take often over mountain passes, but mostly short trips. Should I be following the severe duty maintenance schedule which recommends servicing trans at 45k miles? Was thinking of having ti serviced with the next oil change. 90k miles seems like a super long time to me...

Yes, follow the severe service schedule.

Most people fall under the severe service and dont even know it.

But it also never hurts anything to change any fluid too often.

If you are doing a full flush, then I think 50K is pretty conservative. It it sure won't hurt to do it more often. Do they drop the pan and clean it out and change the filter when they do the flush? If not, get that done as well.
