Help! Out of state Title and a Texas Vehicle Sale

Postby marada [OP] » Aug 24 2015, 2:08am

Hey guys,

A few questions for those of you that have experience in the buying or selling of a vehicle between private parties. I have never done private sale, and at the dealer they take care of just about everything.

I purchased my Silverado several years ago in Pennsylvania. Upon purchase, I financed it through a credit union who was shown on the title as the lien holder. The vehicle was then paid off and released to me. I now have the Pennsylvania title in my hand. Halfway through the loan, I had moved to Texas, and currently live in there. When I moved to Texas I got a Texas driver's license and registered this car in Texas and have kept up with the registration / inspection and everything else as normal.

Now, when I want to sell the vehicle, does this title need to be a Texas title first? Or is selling it with the PA Title acceptable, and the new buyer can just request for it to be a Texas title? I'm reading trying to understand the DMV's guidelines, but it might as well be written in Latin.

I would go to the DMV and have the title changed over. I'm sure it would be easier on everyone.

Yeah I assumed I could do that. However, I have a buyer lined up, so I didn't want to waste the time if I didn't have to if someone knew that you could sell it with the out of state title.
