Opinions on potential purchase

Postby adam86107 [OP] » Dec 20 2019, 1:55pm

So I'm thinking about trading in my F250 to trim down the monthly payment. I found a 2016 Silverado 2500 LTZ 6.0 with 42k miles. They are asking $40,500, down from the original asking price of $45k. Does this price sound right? It seems a little steep for a 4 year old 6.0 truck. They won't budge on the price, it's about to reach its 90 day period before going to auction and claim to have the price marked $500 below what they have in it. I've dealt with this salesmen numerous times and have no reason not to believe him. Thoughts?

To me that seems a little on the high side. I'd be looking more in the area of $37k for a gas truck to be getting a good deal.

But I can see it selling fir $40k

In January of this year, I paid 34,500 for a 16 1500 LTZ with a 5.3 4x4 with 47k miles from a local dealer. so for 40 k on a 3/4 ton that doesn't seem too far off from what I paid. however, can you get under it and see how much rust it has? was it from Canada? you could always slap a 3rd party warranty on it as well (i paid about 2400 for up to 125k miles on the truck and 8 years of bumper to bumper from route 66 through my local credit union, we've used it before and it's paid off on the cruze).

I test drove it yesterday but didn't have any time to really inspect it. It's been Texas truck it's whole life. It does have a 6" Fabtech lift and aftermarket wheels and tires. The previous owner is a school superintendent so I wouldn't imagine it has been dogged.

I almost bought a 2015 2500 gasser earlier this year. It was an LT but had leather, rear sliding window etc. it had 40k miles and they were asking 33k. I was told that was too much at the time. Part of me still wishes I had bought it....

Prices on the out going model are going to rise. As the 2020 prices are high and not being marked down. Before the 2020s came out. That price would have been too much. As a new one could have been had for not much more.

I'll contribute to what I paid, but I don't know if there is really any relevance.

I bought my 2015 in October of 2017 for $25K with 26,000 miles on it. 5.3, 1500 from Clay Cooley Chevy in Irving, TX....(since you're in Texas....)

In my neck of the woods (Wyoming), a truck like that would go for about $39K. I'd keep hounding the salesman. If it goes to the auction block, they're going to get much less than what they're now asking.
