Night and day difference without those running boards! I also used an eraser wheel when I deleted the side moldings on my 06. As well as paint matching my bowtie.

Curious about your dual battery idea.

Update.

I'm getting my engine back tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about it.

The bill came out to right under $1800, which isn't as bad as I was expecting. I had the guy bore and sleeve the one cylinder and hone the rest. He also bolted everything back together from the heads down. I still have the intake and oil pan stuff, but I can do that myself just fine. I'm know I saved money taking everything to him in a pile. Saved on shop hours etc.

I have most of my parts gathered, but I'm sure I'll be back and forth to Napa a few times in the coming weekends.

As soon as I pick it up I'll get her on a stand and get some pictures.

The only thing I'm worried about it the initial start up. I've read a few different opinions on priming the oil system, so I don't know what to go with. Anyone have any knowledge on that?

So its been a while since my last update here.

Everything is back together and running me around to my hunting spots.

It turned out the machine shop bill was only $1800 for a reason. He managed to hone the one bad cylinder back into shape without sleeving it and everything is stock size, no over boring. What I got back wasn't exactly what I was expecting though. A box full of new parts and a bare block. Lol.

So, I decided I'd spent enough and found a 6.0 rebuild manual online.

It took me 2 weekends to do the rebuild between research and running back and forth for some random parts. Mostly bolts. Then it took another weekend to get it dropped in and everything buttoned back up. My wife was nice enough to crawl around under the truck and help me out too.

All told, I'm in it about $2500 for everything. A hell of a lot better than the $7400 the dealer wanted.

Some more pics.

After the initial start up, I took her for a drive around the block and managed to blow a line off the oil cooler. After dumping a quart or two in the neighbors yard my wife brought me some new oil and a couple tools to fix the line.

Its had a couple oil changes since then and is purring like a kitten.

The only issue I am still having is a word intermittent start deal where it starts fine after sitting all week or after running and being shut down then started within 10 it 15 minutes. It will give me a no start/long crank time if it gets up to operating temps then shut down for longer than 30 mins up to at least 5 hours.

I've narrowed that down to what I think is either a crank or cam sensor giving me issues, but I'm tired of fighting it so its going to the dealer next week. Word is it needs a crank relearn after an engine rebuild anyway.

Now that that mess is felt with, I can get back to the fun stuff. Next on the list is a full exhaust, intake, and custom tune from Lew. Going with Doug thorley tri-y, a couple Jones turbo 3030XLs, some custom work in the middle with an h pipe and top it off with a MIT.

Also, sorry for the sideways pictures... Damn phone...

Does anyone have any pics of the NBS trucks with black flares and no side molding? I'd like to see an example. I'm thinking about taking mine off.

Heres a pic to proofs the truck moves.

Nice! That has got to be a great sense of accomplishment. I reassembled a motor once after having a machine shop overhaul it. I enjoyed doing it and learning. It was not my daily driver so was able to take my time. Hope you get the gremlins tracked down and can have some smooth sailing for a bit.
