Fair enough. I will wait for you to get the trans and then you can prorate based on the tread depth before and after! lol

Im like 95% sure I know who I'm going with for thr trans. I will likely be going with limitless diesel/elevated ingenuity up in Massachusetts. I just need to give them a call to nail down the final details and all I'm cost and time frame.

Most everyone wants about $650 for shipping if i have one shipped to me, and the shipping for the core back to them. And then I still need to install it. It's a pretty simple install but, honestly I'd rather pay them to install it instead of paying shipping lol. I hate transmission work. I don't like it on the big trucks, and really don't like it on pickups.

Will likely be a 750-800hp build with a gorend R triple disk converter.

I have seen that gorend triple disk mentioned on some of the R** 2nd gen pages for the 47/48REs before.

If you had all weekend access to a lift and a trans jack it would not be too bad but its not something I would care to do in the driveway unless I had too thats for sure.

If you could drive there drop of the truck off uber to a hotel and then back when they are done installing. 1-2 days up there maybe. Then no trans shipping charges. Probably a little farfetched of an idea though.

EDIT: what is the cost difference going over 750 say closer to 900-1000 just for peace of mind?

Well they are only about 4 hours away from me so they aren't too far.

My game plan is to see if they will build the trans and all, and have it ready, then make the trip up there and have them do the swap in a day hopefully.

The trans comes out in about an hour or so if everything plays nice, and you have a lift and good trana jack. So figure 2 hours for removal and install, then I'm sure they will want to flush the cooler out, so figure another hour or so. I'm figuring about 4-5 hours labor at the most.

If it is more than that, I may just make the drive up there and pick up the trans, and them ship my core back myself to save some money and install it myself. I'll have to see what the total cost looks like for those options.

So I have finalized my trans build (finally lol).

I will be going with Mike L out at Inglewood Transmissions in California. I called and spoke to him today and he knows his stuff like no other. He also designed the torque converter and valve body assembly for these transmissions.

Looking to order it early next month most likely.

Well, Inglewood is a bit more than 4 hours away from you so are you going to do the install or take a little vacation to head to the other side? With access to the lift and tranny jack it wouldn't be too bad. I did it the shade tree way on an '84 Oldsmobile I had years ago. Wouldn't want to do that again, too old now.

I'd guess they build it and box crate it up and ship to you, so then you just remove from the crate and install?

Well we are getting pretty well hammered with snow currently. I went into work this morning and ended up leaving a little early and still had some deep snow to go through on the roads that weren't plowed, since there was tractor trailers jack knifed on the way I normally take.

Truck did great. The deepest I got was up to the bottom valance. We currently have 18"+ and it is still supposed to bear down all night and into tomorrow yet tapering off as the night goes on though. I'd bet we'll see every bit of 24" or more by the time it's done. ImageImage
