American Z71's 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500

Postby AmericanZ71 [OP] » May 26 2020, 3:34am

Hi guys, I'm back. I haven't been active on this in few years due to life in general (school, apprenticeship, work, LIFE) but I have been actively switching up trucks the last few years. So ill give you a quick run down of the last few rigs I've owned before I ended up with the beaut I have now.
So it started off with me selling my blue 2006 Silverado 1500, lifted 6" on 35's. Light bars, reverse lights, etc. For something more practical due to me getting into the plumbers union and most of my jobs would be in Boston. I sold my 06 for $6500 and bought 2015 Silverado 1500, crew cab, full 6'6" bed, and 4.3. I figured it would be my ride it till it dies truck until I realized how much I hated the 4.3 and how bad it was on gas even with a empty trailer on the back or any load in the bed. I also could not see myself putting money into a v6 truck...I did not want this long term.

After I sold that truck and made some good money off of it I decided to buy a beater and keep my money in the bank for a house. So i bought a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500HD with the 6.0 in it. I payed 2 grand for it and I regretted every second of it. It had 213,000 on it and problems started instantly. I ended up doing injectors, MAF, plugs, wires, coil packs, injectors, knock sensors, throttle body, air filters, and a handful of mediocre rust repair. It ended up having a warped cam lobe and the rust was eating it up. I junked it.

So now we are up to date and I just bought a beautiful 2009 Silverado 1500, 5.3, 120K, RUST FREE...It was a company truck that the owner would take out if another truck broke down, try to repair or jump the fleet truck, and if not just put the strobes on until a tow truck would arrive. He was asking 8 for it but after a few days of pestering I got it for $6500. This is one of the cleanest used trucks i've seen and I plan on driving this till it dies. As of right now it is stock besides the strobes and horn but I plan on doing some performance, comfort, and practical mods. I just ordered a front end rebuild kit (upper/lower ball joints, ucas, inner/outter tyrods) and am picking up a diablo i2 thursday to get rid of the AFM and some lag. As of right now I just want to do a lot of maintenance work but I will need tires soon so some rancho quicklifs and 9000xls are in the near future. Then i'm sure the bug will catch in and ill be dropping some $$$. Anyways here are some crappy pics I will take better ones soon, thanks for reading, I'm glad to be back.

Welcome back Luke. How many miles on the truck?

Time to update your profile info and siggy stuff. Looking forward to what all you do to it.

Basic mechanical and suspension refresh are always good first steps!

Yes I do need a major profile update. I am going to mess around with it tonight and try to get use to navigating this site again. EDIT* Only 130,XXX miles on this 5.3! My original post said 120K but thats a typo

Thanks man I was actually thinking of selling the strobe bar but after flicking it on I decided against it lol Not the most practical but hey who cares! And as far as the suspension, the rear sits about two inches higher than the front. Everything is stock but he did add a little "helper" on the leaf springs to prevent it from squatting under load. I really am close to pulling the trigger on the rancho quick lift struts and shocks...

Thanks for all the warm welcome backs, today my front end parts arrived....once I finish this side job I will get to installing them most likely Friday! I am planning on changing plugs and wires as well as fluids and filters this weekend. I noticed my rear diff cover could use replacing so i'm searching for one right now, found a couple cool ones just don't know if I want to pay an extra hundo to be cool lol. Also if all goes as plan I will be grabbing my diablo i2 tuner on Thursday for $200! I'll make sure to take pictures/document as I go along.

What's wrong with the diff cover? Mine had some surface rust on it. I cleaned it off and shot it with some rust converter.
