That's correct, it was chrome stock. I ended up painting it because the chrome was starting to bubble. I peeled the chrome where it was bubbling and filled back with Bondo. The remaining chrome I roughed with some sandpaper, but didn't do a good enough job honestly. I didn't use the right primer, either. I should've roughed better and used a self etching primer and I think it would've held up fairly well.

Alternatively, on the chrome in my bumper I used plastidip. That has held up pretty well. There's some small spots in it from gravels, but it's 0ewtty easy to get off and re-do, and despite the gravel spots (not really chips... More like holes, kinda) it's still adhering really well.

Loaded the truck up this week and headed south. I'm loaded down with tools and equipment to help out with the Hurricane Florence recovery.

The old girl normally gets 12.5-13mpg around home, but on one tank on the trip down she got 15.4! Evidently she likes this relief work stuff. I was even hot-rodding it a little on that tank.

In all seriousness, it's performing great. Today was the first day of work. I'm here till Friday and I'm hoping we can get some real work done this week. My team's already been to three houses today doing clean up.

Also got a new radio installed just before the trip. Got this new Cobra 25 for $30; it's a brand new radio. It's way better than that old JC Penney radio I had. I'm really glad I got it in before the trip down.

If anyone is curious, under the spare is a cooler and two cans of gas. Both tool boxes are filled to the brim. She is fuuuulll. With my normal tool box she's got a little rake to her still, but it's got that Carolina lean going on loaded down. I guess it fits, being in Carolina...

I was digging through some old pictures and found some from when I first got the Silverado. Figured I'd throw them up. Only thing I had done up to that point was plasti-dip the front bumper. The version of the truck had only 96k miles; a far cry from the 135k she sits at now.

The truck is running like a top. I haven't touched a thing on the truck in several months, other than replacing the head unit when it died. The motor is happy, the trans is happy. Gas mileage leaves a little to be desired, but that's to be expected. Only thing wrong with the truck is the front diff is still eating itself and it's slow to shift into 4wd. That will be remedied soon, though, when I replace the gears and rebuild the front diff. I ordered the parts for 4.56 gears in the rear, and I'll order the parts for the front before long.

So what did you do with the leaking header bolt? I had that too or should I say the previous owner did a bad job at watching his drill.
Leak wasn´t as big as yours and I had to fill maybe half the reservoir in 1000 miles. Still decided to fix it and swapped over to new heads.
Would like to hear what you did to fix it eventually

The leak is a lot slower after I put some thread sealant on it. Probably about the same as yours. That said, I've ordered a custom bolt from a local machine shop that is stainless steel and has a tapered thread.

I would be interested in that solution. If it works I might be interested in such a bolt to sell my old heads fully functional

I just ordered some new tubular UCAs today. My factory upper ball joints are going out again, so I figured it was time to upgrade.

Ive had my 4.56 gears sitting in the garage for a couple months now. Still haven't had a chance to install them. Gotta get the other truck running again first in case I run into any issues. Gotta be able to get to work.

I have gotten a little done to it though. Finally replaced that crappy Dual head unit with a new Sony unit. Got it off Crutchfield on a scratch and dent sale. I haven't really gotten to adjust on it yet, but even with all the stock levels it's a million times better (shocker /s).

Hopefully I'll get some real time to work on the bigger stuff soon. No other news other than it ticked over 140k miles yesterday, chugging along happily.

Oh, and still never gotten that bolt. I'm probably gonna have to go to another machine shop on it.
