As of now I plan on doing the rails. I have those plastic caps on there now, but they’re already coming off the back half and it hasn’t even been a year since they were put on. They also catch a lot of dust and dirt under them. As long as the rails are straight and not dented to pieces, or have holes drilled in them everywhere, I plan on lining them too.

Got all the plastic covers off. By the looks of the paint, I’d say the plastic liners have been on it since new. Some spots have rubbed to bare metal though, so I’m going to pick up some primer and hit those spots. The PO drilled a few holes in the bed rails for something, but I’m just going to bedline over them.

Here it is with plastic removed. Time to scuff it up Image

Will be nice to have that all cleaned up and covered with the liner. How do you plan to do the cut the line in on the rails?

A little buffing on the tail lights might bring back some shine also.

My Dutch Shephard loves to lay out in the front lawn while I tinker on the truck.

And those tires look nice and beefy on there!

Good idea on buffing the lights! Might as well hit it all while I’ve got the buffer.

I’m hoping if I just layer some tape it’ll be strong enough to leave a clean line. I don’t plan on going too thick on the rails, so hopefully that works.

I'm surprised it was so rust free if that plastic liner was in the bed since the truck was new. You must live somewhere not as rust prone lol. Mine had the plastic bedliner since new I believe but it also had a cap which kept it dry underneath the bedliner.

Also about the tail lights, I put 03 tail lights in mine and they are way nicer IMO and don't look so dull like the 99-02s, plus no orange. There is a spot for a 4th bulb which I think is just a marker light, you can get the harness from the 03 as well or just put some tuck tape over the hole to keep water out like I did lol. Just an idea.

I’m surprised by no rust as well. PO must’ve cleaned it out pretty often.

I’m going to have to look into the 03 tail lights. I wasn’t sure if they’d fit or not.

Last few days were spent roughing up the bed. Washed it out really good, let it dry, and taped it up. Hopefully will be applying the coating this afternoon. ImageImage
Also, I have acetone and paint thinner here at the house. Which would you recommend for wiping down with before I apply the liner?

I have always used acetone. Paint thinner may leave a residue.

Thanks silvershot! Really enjoying these Falken 285s is far.

Neal, that’s kind of what I was thinking. Just wanted to be sure.

But my productivity has came to a halt for the day. Went to lunch with the wife and friend, currently sitting at our second brewery of the day lol. Really wanted to get the liner on today, but dang I love me some craft beer. Not calling for rain all week, so will try to get it done tomorrow hopefully.
