Re: ElReeso´s Duramax Build Thread

Postby ElReeso [OP] » Mar 04 2020, 7:09pm

Long time since the last update here.
Had nearly no free time from September to February due to my Job Situation. Things changed and I have more free time now.

Truck has now 169k miles and some smaller updates happened.
It left me stranded in late December when the Idler Pulley snapped out of nowhere when I passed a Big Rig. I was able
to stop it at a small Opel Dealership and get a Tow Truck the next day.
Replaced the pulley and ran fine again. Sometimes my Steering has a strange feel so I think the Steering Pump didn´t
like the few miles without the belt.. Will see how that goes.

Back in December a few changes to the vehicle fleet were made.. Decided to look for a Parts Truck for my girls C10.. bought myself a 1962 C30 Dually with Utility Bed and a Boom which will arrive at Rotterdam Port in 2-3 weeks.
Now found a Parts Truck but was to good to cut up so we will sell the 85 C10 and doing a full restauration on the 77 C10 we bought.

Whilst buying that 77 C10 I found an Utility Bed for sale.. decided to buy it and it will be mounted to the Duramax.

The Liftgate will be removed but the previous owner tried to do this with blow torch.. So I need to weld this mess and then build fitting brackets to mount it and build a bumper.

While buying all that stuff and thinking about plans for all the different vehicles I messed up on a slippery road when I had my first day off.. just two days before christmas eve.
Multiple Big Rigs where stuck and all the cars went around.. I was the last one and had plenty of distance I thought.. Cars were braking and multiple cars slid into each other. I was the last one but I hit the small VW Polo in front of me..
The Tow hooks on my Front Bumper pushed the rear end in so much it was totalled.. I just had some paint chipping on the hooks and a lot of glass on my hood.

Not much happened..
Finally got all the parts to do the Utility Bed Swap.
Now I need to finish sandblasting and welding it, then lift it on to the Dmax and build some Mounting Brackets.
Duramax is ready for Paint and Rocker/Cab Corner Repair but my time is getting less and less.. had a lot to do on other Vehicles and a 62 Impala followed me home. Need to fix that up for my girl so she can cruise in August/September.
After that the Duramax will receive its much needed Love and gets all the new Parts on.

Stil trying to get some 16" Wheels with 37" Tires which are at my buddies Place. He isn´t the seller and thats the Problem.. I´m trying to get them for about 9 Months now.

I got a lot things to do so I´m not in a hurry but its annoying for sure.
Wheels are American Racing Outlaw II in golden matte finish.. that makes them perfect for my truck and rare to get. Can get them in black or silver online but not in gold.
Guy wants 1000€ for them with old Parnelli Jones MT Tires which are only good for a ride to the dumpster..
Realistic Price would be around 350 bucks and I already offered him 450€ because the would fit so good..

Guess I´ll wait some more.. one day I´ll buy them haha

Started the Frame Restauration today.
Removed the bed yesterday and soaked the GM Undercoating with Diesel Fuel for 24h.
Took the Pressure Washer out and sprayed it down today..
Way less rust than I thought.

I‘ll drive it in the shop in a few hours, remove the tank, wiring etc and let it dry till tomorrow.

New Workbed is sandblasted and currently sitting at the paint shop.
