Alright, next up. I've made the decision to swap out my center console for a jump seat. I've been looking, and of course there are a few considerations. I committed today by taking the mother-effer out of the truck and I have no 'regerts.' Wait...

1). First, the SLT or LTZ models have the consoles, with harness and upgraded features (2 cig lighters, USB ports, etc). So this is a downgrade.

2). My truck, my rules. I'd love to have the jump seat - bench seats are pro in a truck, imho. I also have a big family. The thought of that center seat is cool. I may be the last owner of this thing, so I'm taking the risk.

3) Aw ****. Of course, as soon as I pull the console, disconnect the harness, I lose sound from the radio speakers AND the blinkers. The internet has 0.0 answers. Although, based on the way it disconnected, I'm thinking there is a loop here. I'm going to remove the 12v console under the radio and fiddle around with reconnecting the harness, to see if I can get the sound to work again.

Some of this work is dependent on: This Thread...

I'm so committed, I'm ready to drive 8 hours to meet up and get this swap done.

If it doesn't work out, I'm going to strip the harness from the console, remove the 12v box and loop the connections and stuff them under the dash. I'll install my CB radio under the radio unit on the console floor and patch the carpet. I'll look for a jump seat on eBay until I find a reasonable price, and color, and buy / install.

I've seen a few upgrade videos to the console where folks rattle can the lighter plastic and it looks just fine. It's possible I find another jump seat that closely matches the darker gray in the interior and I just cheap-seat-cover it. Super picky...

Have I lost my mind yet?

I just posted on that other thread. There are some issues...some of which you have run into already...but the main one will be a jump seat with the premium dash since it juts out in the center a lot more....losing most of the leg room for someone who would be sitting there. Here is a pic with that set up. There is no room for legs...even a child would be cramped in there. And would only have a lap belt which is not ideal at all. Very dangerous to leg injury in a crash...etc.

Way to kill my buzz, Neal! I really appreciate the perspective and experience.

A lot of factors make this not work. It would also require a console change / swap it seems, just for safety and comfort.

What I'm thinking then, because I kind of like not having the console in, is that I explore the Bose box and see if I can mod that space a bit. If anything, I can have my pup lay there and tuck the amp, harness and CB radio back in there on the floor.

Not to be another buzz killer... those jump seats are about the most uncomfortable seat ever. I can't imagine anyone sitting in it for more than 5 minutes, not even a child. Too upright, too narrow, too hard, no leg room, etc. Pretty worthless as a seat. Marginal as a console/storage unit.

I wouldn't doubt it. I'm glad there was time to process and explore this stuff. This is a great example why these forums are valuable.

Also, Neal, I appreciate you jumping in as well. It was a Tulsa 'local' request, but hey - what else am I going to do during the plague. Now I can drive the other direction. :-P

Once I get back out there, I'll crack the Bose box and post some pics. :)

Finally gonna jump in on this thread (registering helps) to monitor since I'm interested in your plans for the center console replacement. I want to replace my jump seat but am only interested in a custom build vs using an OEM setup from a donor truck. Love your truck brother - keep up the good work. Neal I've read your thread in it's entirety and like your thoroughness and commitment as well. My truck's story is long and so are the upgrades but my next project is swapping the 5.3 to a 6.0/6.2. Maybe I'll post the how to on that one if it's not done.
