Haes 2005 Silverado LS 2500HD

Postby hatzie [OP] » Aug 25 2018, 4:09pm

I just picked up my new to me 2005 2500HD The last SIlverado I owned is a 76 when Chevy Option YE9 was the Silverado trim.

Here it is as purchased in Sacramento. I'll be making changes to fit what I want.

Re: Haes 2005 Silverado LS 2500HD

Postby hatzie [OP] » Aug 26 2018, 4:57am

Just picked it up this afternoon at Truck Trends Line-X in Belmont. I had it sprayed over the rails to cover 14 years of scratches in the paint.
Put the new Truxedo TruxSport roll up Tonneau Cover on this evening after I got her home. I like the roll up tonneau because it's simple and easy to get full access to the bed when needed because it rolls into a 5" diameter cylinder against the cab. I have this style cover on my 1976 K20 and 2000 C2500. My folks have three section roll up covers on their T****a Tundras. Access to the forward third of the bed on those trucks can be problematic with the fold-up covers.

Here's a terrible picture in my driveway. I'll take some better pics in the AM.

A low mile, not ragged out HD is a good find. Congrats!

They're out there. I missed out on several. I passed on a handful of 8.1L trucks. Didn't want to feed them.

Hey David...nice that you started up a build thread! Get some pics of that new liner. I bet it really dressed up the truck to cover over scratches and worn paint for sure. I saw in your into thread that you swapped wheels and tires. The ones that were on it looked a bit unique. What made you decide to swap them out? Also, the tires looked brand new in the purchase pic. Were they not?

I'll take some good pictures in the AM

I didn't like the look of the Hummer H2 wheels. They're 17x8 or maybe 8.5, reports vary, and appear to have a deep dish so the 285/70r17 tires were sticking out. The odd tire and wheel combo made it handle strangely and made the turning radius huge. Personally it just looked wrong on the truck. They're for sale if you want em.

The wheels on it now are Pre-2010 8-lug 6.5" bolt circle N89 GMT900 wheels with Michelin Defender LTX M/S LT265/70R17 Load Range E tires. I run the same 31.6" outer diameter Michelins on my other 3/4 ton trucks on 16" wheels... LT265/75R16. GREAT all season tires that do very well in snow and heavy rain... and they don't rub on tight turns.

I changed the tire size in the ABS module with my Tech 2. 265/70R17 is not an available size but 265/75R16 is... The only difference is the sidewall height drops by 0.5" when you move up to 17" wheels.

Haha! No thanks...I have the wheels I wanted! lol

I am also running Michelin Defenders...and really like them. On a 20" wheel. And 305 width. Gave me a bit of a wider profile, but on stock wheels no issues at all with handling or turning.

Looking forward to the pictures!

I should've taken a picture of before. The bed loked like I'd been running the bedliner for 6 months in the Northeast. It had the standard rub spots on the corners next to the cab and along the inner bedsides above the wheel arches but no rust at all...

Line-X looks good. Had some hay in the bed this AM and the backpack blower didn't get all the dust off. My tablet has an interesting parallax issue that I never noticed without all those long straight lines. Good enough for a quick N dirty picture tho.
You can see why I chose the TruxSport roll up rather than the Tri-Fold tonneau cover.
20180826_104114.jpg

The Michelin tires and N89 wheels look good and, much more importantly, they ride better than the ones that came on it. The original PY0 centre caps fit fine once I replaced the stripped out lug covers.

I replaced the sun damaged headlamps and Turn/DRL housings with NEW GM units. I bought a set of Asian units on the off chance they weren't awful. No QC at all. Casting flash all over and the fit was abysmal.

The lamps are worse than they look in the sales picture...
