Miley's 2009 Silverado 1500

Postby Miley [OP] » Nov 28 2019, 8:33pm

Welcome to my build thread!

I made my welcome thread Here- Hi All about my new 2009 1500 that I bought from my Gpa, as he can no longer drive. I received some awesome replies and will document my various alterations to my new baby.

From my welcome thread, here are my original plans:
Replace tires. They have great tread but are the original 09 tires and are partially dry-rotted
Tune-up. The oil is replaced but I can only assume most of the fluids need changing..maybe new spark plugs and some hoses.
Replace key fob. There is only one and I have to squeeze it to get it to work.
Tint. Windows and windshield.
Audio. Video HU. All speakers, maybe components. Amp/under seat sub.
Tailgate. Add piston arm to tailgate for easy lowering for the wifey.
Floor mats. Heavy duty ones.
Other stuff. Windshield visor. Steering wheel wrap. Emblem blackout. Projector LED lights. Lightbar.

Since making my introduction post I have done the following things:

Bought a sun shade - It is great and was the right price. I nearly don't have to lower the vanity mirrors to hold it in place.

New key fobs
I got two replacement fobs off of EBay, as well as a third fob with a flip key. I am planning on having the key cut at some point but am concerned that the big ass key will butt up against the gear shifter.

Engine air filter
It was cheap AF and fits very well.... I will mention my shame in buying a cabin air filter to discover the slot does not exist... OH WELL

Got the tires replaced
There were awesome 265 ATs with plenty of tread on the truck, but they were starting to dry rot. I took the truck to a local used tire place and had them put some 275 highway tread tires on for $50 a piece. These will be just fine until I make a decision on wheels/tires.

Began the audio install
I bought Cadence components for the front doors and A pillar tweeters and Cadence coax for the back doors. I began the insulation.sound deadening process as well with some Dynamat I had left over. I also ran my first replacement speaker wire to the tweeters with some leftover KnuKonceptz 12g speaker wire.
In the photo you can see the crossover and mid woofer. I cut back some of the moisture barrier to keep it away from the woofer.
I have more butyl sound deadening on the way, as well as both 6mm and 20mm closed cell foam insulation. I will add these and change out the wiring completely as I go along.

KnuKonceptz is the best wiring in the industry. fight me

Kind of crappy speaker brackets (came with wire harnesses which were somewhat useful). Had to slightly cut on these.

Side note - I can answer questions about audio install as I know a tiny bit about it. Most everything else with vehicles I am completely reliant on others and google/youtube.

Thanks for reading!

great looking truck! I noticed in the description, lists 2 wheel drive, but I see a Z71 sticker? I thought (very well could be wrong) that Z71 was only available on 4 wheel drive? anyway nice truck!

It certainly is and my buddy told me that while the Z71s are/were mostly 4WD that a few were made 2WD - mine being one of them. Weird right
