MLS75's 2018 Black Z71 (little) build

Postby MLS75 [OP] » Jan 10 2019, 9:09am

Hi all. On December 17th I traded in my 2016 Jeep

and brought home a 2018 Z71 All-Star edition.

As my wife said, it was time for me to get a "grown-up" vehicle, haha. So, right away I started looking for ways to make it my own. The plan was to chronicle this as I was doing each upgrade, but that didn't happen so I figured I would go ahead and start now. First order of business was to change the color of the gold bowties to satin black. Eventually I will remove them from the truck and paint them but for now the overlays will have to do.

Next up was a visit to Spyder Offroad to have the Motofab 2.5" leveling kit installed. And of course you can't level it and not get tires to go with it. So Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 275/70/18 were installed as well.

This past weekend I de-badged the "Silverado" from the doors.....

And re-badged with Z71 in it's place.

Emblems came from Emblem Warehouse. I repainted the Z to satin black and painted the 71 anthracite. Also removed the Z71 from the bed and had the front windows tinted to match the back.

Awesome! Those are all the mods I’d do first. Now get some nice aftermarket wheels!

If you would have asked me about wheels 2 weeks ago I would have said the stocks have to go. Now though, they've grown on me a bit. At least enough that I can wait and get a few other things done first, then come back to wheels. When I do it will probably be something with an anthracite center and black lip.

Tried a few things I had laying around with very little progress. Mineral spirits, some tar and gunk remover, and finally switched over to a 3M rubbing compound that I had laying around. Came right off.

I have to wait...temperature up here is far from cooperative for that kinda work. I'd snap all the letters off!

Haha, I bet. Heat did help. It was about 50 F outside when I did it and a hairdryer definitely made it easier.
