To bad those perform worse than the factory setup. :| They do look better though.

Ok, so let's hear all the opinions and such about cold air intakes. I will not take offense to any comments, but am open to your thoughts. It is easily reversible and I didn't spend much more than $80 total. What are the pros and cons that come to mind for you guys? I've done a little research and at first wasn't going to get a CAI...

The main issue is that the hot air from the engine bay gets sucked into the intake. That partly open box is the issue. A sealed box is the best. Which the OEM box is.

To expand on what nealinator said, what you have is a "hot intake box" now since it isn't totally sealed. Engine bay heat will suck right into that filter, whereas the factory box is completely sealed and intakes through the fender which gets fresh air.

Also those metal tubes are worse for heat soak than the plastic factory ones, so again it's making your intake air hotter, which is less dense so you will make less power.

Finally, there really isn't a restriction on the factory box for any stock engines, even the 6.0L. Really you can throw a few mods at a 6.0L and still be fine on stock intake. Even the best scenario for aftermarket cold air intake is gaining single digit HP/TQ at the upper end of the RPM range, so they are mostly for bling any way you look at them (again on stock engine).

Black Bear Performance did one or two rounds of testing and there isn't much to be gained from them. They posted results, can probably find somewhere if you really want some type of data.

Most people who "have" to upgrade around here have figured out the AIRAID Modular Intake Tube (MIT) is pretty much the best mod for these trucks. It gets rid of the ugly intake tube and replaces with a nice looking round and free flowing one, and it's made of heavy duty plastic. It uses the factory intake box still.
