Swalraven56's 2002 silverado z71

Postby Swalraven56 [OP] » Jan 12 2019, 9:37pm

Hello, my name is Seth and I'm 15.

I have a 2002 silverado, and it is fully loaded. It is stock other than infinity kappas in the front and rears. (picture will be uploaded when I replace the crossover) I have a double din and a backup camera that will get installed soon.

Things I want to do.
-wheels and tires
-leveling kit
-engine mods
-fender flares
-subwoofers

Unfortunately, progress will be slow. Sorry about the quality of the pictures and thanks for looking.

Looks like a nice clean truck. Similar to my 01 I had.

I'd avoid the fender flares though. They just trap debris and cause rust. Only thing they are good for is hiding rust that is already there until you get it fixed.

Thanks! There is some rust already that I want to hide. If I put on some por-15 where the fender flare covers, would it prevent further rust?

It might. It will at least slow down any current rust. But generally if you can see it, it's already much worse behind where you can't see it.

My 01 was mint when I got it. Then over the course af a year, the rear fenders started to bubble and rust. It was fixed with a patch panel once before. And it was done pretty nicely too. No visible lines at all and paint matched perfect.

But they must not have done a good job of sealing the back side so it rusted again. That and the rockers was a main factor of why I got rid of the truck.

Price for fixing them? What about replacing the fender, what would that cost? What about fixing the box sides and rockers? Thanks!

Mine were done before I bought it. But when I lived in Ohio I had a good friend who worked at a body shop and had him give me a quote to fix all the rust on the truck. It was two new rocker panels and two bed sides.

That was his preferred method and what he felt is the longest lasting fix. After labor and paint along with parts the total was something like $5k.

Not worth it to me. The frame was 100% solid and rust free. The motor ran like a top and the trans shifted great. Had factory 4.10 gears too.

But I can't stand rust. So I traded it in on my 2017 and now I take every possible measure to prevent rust.
