Tsuintx’s 2016 Silverado

Postby tsuintx [OP] » Aug 10 2020, 3:25am

As I posted in my earlier build thread (Tsuintx’s 2007 Chevy Build), I sold the 07 on 7/20/20 and then the search was on for a replacement.

Plan was to get either a newer NNBS, or if an opportunity presented itself, I might consider upping my budget and jump into a K2xx truck. And of course I blew way past my original budget, but found what I consider being a pretty nice truck.

On to the truck, then: It’s a 2016 Silverado All Star Edition with 5.3 and 4x4. Has 178K miles, which of course is quite a bit for a 4-year old truck, but there’s a good reason for it. PO is an area sales manager for a heavy equipment company and his area runs from So-Cal to Louisiana. He gets a new truck every 3-4 years and he just got a 2020 Z71 and bought the truck from the company.

Many people will think that it’s stupid to buy a truck with a lot of miles, but I much rather buy a one owner truck with the miles when it comes with a big stack of service records (all oil changes etc.) than one with less miles with unknown history.

I’ve only driven the truck so far for less than 100 miles, but what a difference! The ride is pretty impressive compared to NNBS. The cabin in the back is much more spacious, too. It has a whole bunch of gadgets built-in with the big touch screen, so I have quite a bit to learn.

I wasn’t really looking for a 4x4, but I didn’t let that get in the way since the overall deal (price, condition etc.) was good. It also has a Leer cover on it which I’m unsure about whether I will leave on or not. It doesn’t have bedliner, though, just a GM rubber mat.

Interesting to note is that it came equipped with tow bar equipment in the front. His company puts them in all trucks, but he has never had to use it. Haven’t investigated yet what I need to do if I want to remove it. So far they will stay as the mounting points will now work as front tow hooks. Part of the equipment is also a battery disconnet switch in the engine bay.

Plans? Well... Not a whole lot for now, other than the mandatory Lew tune and a catch can. Need to get those ordered in the coming days. Could probably be leveled, too, I guess. No, it will not be lifted.

New wheels/tires are usually on my list, especially if the truck has stock wheels, but I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry with those as the tires are almost brand new Terra Grapplers. Spray-in bedliner will be on the list, too. As long as the cost is not going to be huge since the bed has scratches and signs of use.

That’s about it for now, I guess. I’ll post more as things progress. Just a couple of pics for now. More of those at some point, too.

I was wondering about a spray in liner. But dismissed it as way to big a spend for you. Haha. Great truck Tomi!

Thanks! All my previous trucks have always had a sprayed-in liner, so haven’t ever had to even look into it, so I don’t have proper idea about the cost. I’ll look into it in due time, but it’s not a major priority. But when I do it, I also want to have it done right, so I’m not going to attempt to do it myself.

And like I said, I blew WAY past my initial budget, so I’ll try not to spend too much on it right away. :? As if that’s going to happen. Maybe it will if I say it to myself enough times?

Went through all the records and receipts today and the longest oil change interval has been 8000 miles. Always serviced at the same independent garage and not at quick lube places.

Plenty of other repairs/maintenance also done: trans/T-case/rear end fluids, left rear axle seal, pinion seal, plugs/wires, injector cleaning, brakes w/ceramic pads, brake fluid, alignments, AC condenser etc.

Been a while since I’ve found a truck with such complete records. Guess it helped that it was maintained on company dime. All recommendations from work orders were always done.

I think the last time I looked into it a bedliner was somewhere around the $500 range

Nice truck, and already getting a tuner!

Rhino liner appointment set for Monday morning. Saving almost $100 by driving 45 miles out to the country than just 22 miles to the closest one here in the metroplex.

Around my area - I paid $550 for Line-X to be applied to my F250 with a 8-foot bed.

Spray in bed liners are definitely the way to go. I have one applied in every one of my trucks, and they can take a beating and are easy to clean.

Mine will be $430 in the country versus $525 in the city. Worth the extra 46 miles to me.
