in the past couple weeks every once in awhile my 2003 Silverado 4.8 will have a problem with starting. its not every time I start it but probably at least once or twice a day. ill turn the key and it'll crank then ill turn it off then back on and it'll crank again then start slowly. it has never taken more then 2 times to start. anyone have the same problem?

Sounds like what I just went through. If it happens when the truck is warmed up then it could be the heater circuit on the crank sensor or cam sensor. I had that problem about a month ago and it was the cam sensor. It fixed the problem and then a couple days ago the crank sensor went out. I recommend if you change one, change them both. Because when the crank sensor goes the truck won't run for more than a minute or two.

Sounds similar to when my fuel pump started to get weak.

At first I could just hold the key a little longer and it would crank, then I had to prime it... key on key off key on crank.... and as it got worse the more i'd have to prime it.

Had this happen on my 03, replaced the fuel pump to fix it. The valve in the pump that holds the fuel pressure goes bad, thus giving you extended crank time. One factor in this issue is a dirty fuel filter. My 03 had the inline filter on the frame rail, and I never changed it! oops lol

how much do fuel pumps usually cost?

You can get one for well under $200 online... especially since you don't need it immediately... partsgeek or rock auto have decent prices... most people recommend sticking with acdelco pumps... but I have 100k miles in an airtex pump.

Also you need to find out if your pump has more than one plug... there are two pumps for these trucks... one has one plug one has two plugs.

Thirdly I suggest lifting the bed unless you have a heavy toolbox in it...

You will need a set of wire cutters and crimpers... most pumps come with a new harness plug... because the plugs have been known to burn out.... you'll have to splice the new harness on... my airtex came with nice insulated buttsplice connectors... I don't know if other brands supply the buttsplice connectors...

Fuel filter first. Cheaper and easier. If that doesn't do it then check fuel pressure.

my dad was tellin me somethin about fuel ejection cleaner? I don't know if thatll help or not?

Fuel injection cleaning is tricky unless you're just using an additive in your fuel.
