Backfiring and hesitation when pulling a hill

Backfiring and hesitation when pulling a hill

Postby Cates02silverado [OP] » Jan 16 2020, 6:49am

Hi my name is John I’m new here. I have a 02 5.3 4x4 Silverado 180k miles. I have installed new coils plugs wires alternator knock sensors cam position sensor and new o2 sensors and a new intake gasket and new injectors and fuel filter. The truck has no cats and magnaflow exhaust. But still backfired and when pulling a hill it will hesitate and seem like it’s kickin in and then a couple seconds later pull fine then hesitate again

It only hesitates pulling hill. Backfiring is just whenever it feels like.

With the cats removed was the engine tuned for that mod properly.?
Sounds like it hasn't been done properly and have you checked the timing, etc.?

I used to have a high mileage '94 that had the same symptoms. The timing was off because of worn down parts.

Not sure if it has been tuned. I bought the truck a month and half ago and since then I’ve put almost 2k in new parts chasing the problem. The check engine light somehow has been turned off or disabled.
