Hey guys i broke the cam sensor off in the chain cover so i took it off and found my chain was actually broken off. what damages could have been done up top? im guessing valves and stuff? Or is it possible I got lucky?

You could have got lucky depending how long it ran (or not hopefully) when you took the timing chain cover off. But now you will have to take the valve covers off and look for damage as in bent push rods and or valves them selves.

I was doing 100 km an hour and it died. The engine was so quiet before it died no knocking no noise. Ran perfect before. I didn’t even know the truck died until I noticed the wheel was stiff. The only code it threw was the camshaft position sensor. And then I broke off the sensor trying to get it out that’s why I took the cover off and noticed the chain broken and tensioner. Now I don’t want to change the pump and the pan gasket if the motors trashed.

Best way is to pull the heads, though you may as well rebuild them at that point. You could scope the cylinders looking for contact points.

Yeah I like that idea. I’ll scope it before I do anything.

chances are the oil pan will need to come off to see if it took out the oil pump too.. maybe the screen caught it? if it has AFM

at 100kmh that means you were about 2500 rpm or so correct? I think the 5.3 is non conflicting so nothing would happen..
