Coolant overflowing

Coolant overflowing

Postby Skylardog123 [OP] » Sep 10 2019, 3:11am

So the past 2 weeks, my coolant overflows, mostlynafter I shut the truck off, andneventuallynit overflows literally 90% of the coolant out and then it will overheat, I've tried a new cap, removed thermostat, flushed heater core and radiator, I checked oil for coolant and its clean, temp stays normal, not sure what else to do

Sounds like a cracked head or block! Had an old Vista Cruiser wagon with a "Rocket v8 in it,, did the same thing after I beat the snot out it being a stupid teenager!
Pressure test the system and check the oil again,, bet you the oil level gets higher! Also, pull the plugs and look for the Really clean ones!
Or,, try a can of BARRS LEAK! That stuff works miracles!

A blown head gasket was the first thing that came to my mind.

Cracked block between cylinders will pressurize your system while running and form a slow loss, Until you shut the engine off, then that pressure in the coolant system will push coolant into the cylinder and create steam! Steam will back up thru the coolant system and you radiator will be like a slow volcano evacuating all or most of the coolant out into a coolant overflow container and the rest will flow onto the ground,,,where the closest kitty cat will want a taste!
And that is a no win situation for your engine and the cat!
Is the end of you exhaust pipe really clean?

Now withe that being said. A head gasket leak between cylinders will do the same thing!
Pull the plugs and look for the really clean plug or plugs and pull the head on that side!
Or,, a Compression test will do the same thing!

So basically your saying the block is cracked ,,not a blown headgasket or anything, because I cant exactly afford a motor swap, and I'm not losing coolant anywhere except the overflow tube, no overheating or anything

Then No I miss spoke, blocks not cracked nothings wrong that's totally normal! Happy Motoring!
