Pulley Squeal

Pulley Squeal

Postby Hoagie90 [OP] » Jul 24 2017, 1:03am

Ok I'm sure this sounds like an easy fix. Yet somehow I haven't been able to figure it out. After replacing my power steering pump a while back I have had a horrible, loud squeal coming from my idler pulley. At first I thought it was a bad bearing, well instead of buying a whole new pulley I bought a replacement bearing and pressed it in at work. Still squealed. So I bought a whole brand new pulley, still squeals. When I spray some WD-40 on it, it stops for a minute or two. Well today I accidentally sprayed some WD on my tensioner pulley, same thing happened, the squeal stopped for a few seconds. So I thought "silly me, I replaced the wrong damn pulley," so I replaced the tensioner pulley. Nope, still squealing.

This is driving me insane, it is so obnoxious and it only gets louder the load I put on the engine. Normally I don't care about some things, but the looks I get from people are starting to irritate me. Anyone have any ideas?

Will a belt really do that? I'm seriously curious because the belt doesn't look that bad, so I never even considered it

Yes, a belt can squeal. Especially if it got some WD-40 on it.
