Ticking noise under acceleration

Ticking noise under acceleration

Postby FamousAmos [OP] » Jul 24 2018, 1:44pm

Noticed on the way to work yesterday that under acceleration there seems to be a sort of ticking noise coming from the drivers side. Doesn’t seem to do it when idling and doesn’t matter if the engines warmer or not.

Did some research and seen a common thing is the manifold gasket, trying to see what I can do before taking it to a shop as the funds are abit right right now

Not sure I would suspect manifold leak if you can't hear it when idling. Should be a noticeable tick just idling with hood open and listening if it is leaking from exhaust manifold. Can you get someone to push the accelerator when it is sitting there and look under the hood to see if it shows up that way? Otherwise...if it has to be moving...may be something else in drivetrain or suspension. Check underneath to see if anything looks suspicious. Look around entire exhaust and check clearances to make sure nothing is rubbing.

Just a thought, the ticking noise started when I installed a K&N drop in filter, may be a coincidence but just crossed my mind

Well easy enough to pull it out and see if that goes away...if you have the old filter perhaps. No idea how that could cause ticking though. Really should not cause that much change.

is the ticking frequency proportional to engine rpm?

The ticking is definitely proportional. Although only really when moving, if I rev the engine at standstill don’t notice the noise when driving it’s loud.

Threw the old filter away but will take a look soon as I get home
